Gotta throw off the gloves, tape up the knuckles.
It's time for some old school 15rnds of bare knuckle boxing
This shit is gonna get real now F* Houston.
Time for payback from 2 years ago.

based on the teams/pitching matchups, I thought the yanks would be slight favorites in game 1 & heavy dogs in games 2 & 3.
but vegas has houseten as -157 in game 1.

Houston has played close to .750 at home. Tanaka has an era over 6 on the road.

alcs ny roster - in hicks, cc, lyons, maybin, chapman, britton. out - voit
tanaka has a great post season pitching history.

Hicks and Sabathia added to ALCS roster.
Voit and Wade were left off the roster.

Houston has no left handed pitches on their roster

Tanaka gave up one run on three hits with seven strikeouts in five innings of New York's 8-2 win in Game 2. He's been historically excellent in the playoffs with a 1.54 ERA and 20 hits allowed over 35 innings. The Japanese star held the Astros in check over two starts in the 2017 ALCS with two runs allowed in 13 innings.

It is truly amazing how detailed stats like these are readily available thanks to the interwebs.

Tanaka and Yanks looking good through 5. Yanks look loose, Houston does not.

Boone moved Torres up to the 3 spot, and that has paid off, to this point. He has both RBIs.

Torres at the plate, Tanaka on the mound, and Judge in the field. That has been the formula, so far.

Six innings, 1 hit, faced the minimum. Hard to remember a better playoff starting performance for Yanks than Tanaka's tonight.

The 15 k, 1 hitter by Clemens in Seattle was better, IMO.

That being said, don't like that we are going to the pen. Tanaka is rolling, let him get into trouble first.

totally agree that Tanaka should have stayed in for 1 more inning. Hopefully it won't backfire.

Agreed, but adam pitched a scoreless inning.
Torres reminds me of a young Jeter, the kid is clutch.

game 1.
oh what a (k)night/beating. 7 zip.
bravo tanaka/torres/tanaka/torres.
yanks take advantage of the home field disadvantage.
I would have let tanaka start the 7th & yanked him when the first stro got on base.
good move by boone taking out tanaka, perhaps allowing him to pitch game 4.
tanaka becoming mr October yankee pitcher. no slight to pettitte.
alcs mvp candidate adam o had some bad luck but yielded a scoreless inning.
gave up a 1 & 2 count seeing eye opposite field base hit. then infield blew what should have been a double play.
I spit up when the talking heads said that its a pickem over the yankee mvp between dj & gio. then they spend the rest of the game swooning over torres.
mvp bergman should have been called out on strikes when he broke the plane with 2 strikes, instead gets a walk
then shows his crappy base running skills. starts/stops/starts. gets thrown out at first. fake mvp.
real mvp dj keeps on showing leather at first. cleanly picks many one hop throws.
great post season lineup/roster manipulation by MOY boone & EOY Cashman.
the yankee offensive - one of the deepest of all time - hicks, ford, voit - all on bench/benched.
the daily old school redmen roller coaster of the day award goes to old school redmen. post. post. post.

I got this from a friend.......... "Tanaka is the first pitcher in history to allow two or fewer runs in each of his first seven postseason starts, breaking a tie with Sandy Koufax."

I was getting a little tired of hearing that the only thing DJ has done since he's been here is hit. Guy is a complete baseball player. Terrific fielder, as we've seen this year.

Which is why I don't want Hicks in the starting lineup in any of these games. They do that, it causes a chain reaction that moves Stanton to DH, Encarnacion to first, DJ to third, and Urshela to the bench. That compromises the infield defense, which has been a key all four of these victories (but especially, the last two).

With the exception of left-center, and CF in Houston, these two parks do not have deep dimensions, so outfield defense is not that high of a priority, IMO (it's important, just not as much as infield D).

Now, both Gardner and Encarnacion went 0 for 4 last night (though Gardner had a couple of good swings). If one of those guys continues to struggle, then you can start Hicks.
