ALCS: Yankees Vs. Astros

I blame Judge and Sanchez. You gotta be thinking lead runner and potential game ending score but Sanchez needs to be catching that ball regardless. They had him dead to rights

Agreed. But it should have never come down to a play at the plate had they executed as they should have.

If I'm judge, yeah the right play was probably Castro to Sanchez, but I'm in panic mode not wanting to go home 0-2.
I'm throwing home too, not wanting to take any chances.
You can't fault Judge, if Sanchez catches it, everyone is saying: "Great throw Judge."

I won't say series is over, but huge huge huge game on Monday night.
CC!!!!!!!!!!! vs. Morton

"Jose Altuve singled with one out, and when Carlos Correa hit a ball into the right-center field gap that Aaron Judge cut off, the race to see if Altuve would score from first was developing. Judge got the ball to Gregorius and watched the rest of it.

“I know how fast the guy is running, I [threw] it as quick as I could,’’ said Gregorius, who might have been blocked by Correa’s slide into second.

Gregorius’ throw home was ahead of Altuve, but it bounced very close to Sanchez’s glove and the catcher never controlled the ball to make a tag."

Gregorius didn't need to because he did his job. His throw was not perfect --

it reached Sanchez on a short hop -- but it was good enough. Even with Altuve’s speed, there was plenty of time for Sanchez to make the play. Sanchez kept his mask on, which he didn’t second-guess himself for later.

When the ball arrived, slightly to the left of home plate, Altuve was a good 4 feet from home. Sanchez just needed to catch the ball, but he fumbled it.

“The bottom line is: If I catch that ball, he’s going to be out,” Sanchez said.

Correa also homered , but Houston needed a daring dash from the 5-foot-6 Altuve to get Verlander a win. Altuve, an AL MVP front-runner, reached with a one-out single against closer Aroldis Chapman, then sprinted around from first base on Correa's shot to right-center field. Shortstop Didi Gregorius' relay beat Altuve to the plate, but catcher Gary Sanchez misplayed a short-hop, allowing Houston's dynamo second baseman to slide past safely.

Have things changed in BB? I always thought if there might be an impending play the catcher gets rid of his mask. I would think the bars might impede him trying to corral a short hop.

It was a good game against atop pitcher But Judge has been so bad if he hits 250 series would be different Not sure but you can't hit under 150 and expect to win Others have stepoed up to be where there are but his at bats and his swings when ball where on the ground or so far out of the strike zone is crazy That said most have been swinging at very bad pitches

First, the throw by Judge was a good one (got rid of the ball quickly, too). Got to DD in plenty of time who threw home on a hop to Sanchez, who should have had his mask off to remove any obstruction to his view.
Additionally, Girardi should have argued obstruction on Correa with his pop-up slide at second. Let the umps tell him otherwise.

With all due respect Knight, that ball should have gone to the cut off man. The goal was not to get Correa at 2nd. The goal was to prevent Altuve from scoring. Had Judge hit the cut off man as he was supposed to(don't believe me then ask Keith Hernandez) in all likelihood Altuve isn't sent home. Castro was not that far out on the outfield grass. Worst case scenario if Judge hits Castro, Altuve gets sent but at least Castro is not trying to throw over the runner(Correa), he has a clear throw to the plate. As soon as the Astros 3rd base coach saw the ball sailing over Castros head he sent Altuve. Of course Sanchez completely F'd things up by dropping the throw, but it should have never gotten to that point

Monte-The relay overthrow was the result, I believe, of Judge getting rid of the ball quickly. The Yankees were aligned properly with Didi backing up Castro. And as you noted, Sanchez botched the catch and tag. Anyway, I think Girardi missed the chance to argue for obstruction at 2nd. Let's hope we're both happier with the results of game 3, etc.

Girardi did have a brief conversation with the umps after the play, arguing for obstruction

There can be no more oopsies from Gary Sánchez behind the dish. In Game 2, Sánchez misplayed a relay throw by having stagnated feet.

Jose Altuve, Houston’s winning run, would’ve been out by a mile had Sánchez blocked the ball, then applied the tag. But rather than deaden the hop, the catcher attempted a first baseman’s style pick, and the ball tipped off his glove and rolled away as Altuve slid into home, sending the Astros to New York with a commanding series lead.

I would consider DH'ing Sanchez and catching Romine tonight.

Sanchez should have had the mask off and caught the ball but you can't bat Romine 4 times in a playoff game just can't. Doesn't matter that Headley Holliday and Ellsbury haven't hit 1 ball this playoff. They could always run into a hit. Romine can't.

If Judge strikesout twice, if he comes up in a big situation in the 6th or 7th, if I'm Girardi, I might have to seriously consider benching him. He's to much of a risk.
2nd and 3rd with 1 out and down 3-2, I don't think the infield plays in, because if they do and the ball gets by them, then probably 2 runs come in, so I'm thinking the infield would be in regular position. If Judge groundsout then atleast the Yanks tie it, but there's a good chance that Judge won't even make contact.
If I'm Girardi, I probably pinch hit for him in that spot.

Sanchez looks tired and slow behind the plate. What do you think you will get from Holliday or Ellsbury? I think Romine's D may be more productive overall.

This is Judge's best game of the post season.
Not only his 3-run HR, but 2 great catches.
Hopefully this gets him going.

How about the old warrior CC, yeah lots of walks, but only 3 hits in 6 innings.

Up 8-0 I'd go: Warren in the 7th, and Betances in the 8th and 9th.
Those 2 need to work on some stuff.

We are going to need them before it's all set and done.

3 games in post season with 2 outs and no runs yet scored and Frazier gets big hit.
