Adios Eli
I have no idea what went on with Eli but can someone please explain how as a player he was not a fit in CMA's system. 40 minutes of hell defense and up tempo offense makes Eli not a fit but Caraher is?
In the one pic I remember of Caraher at practice, he was a sweaty mess and totally gassed. Effort matters with this coach.

Chances are the last 3 guys on the bench don't see much time if any, even in Anderson's pressure D style. That being said, one of those three should be a big body that can come is for short stretches in case of foul trouble or injuries. What we don't need is another guard or tweener, unless it's a one year deal, and there's no big worth taking.
See, I think just the opposite. Playing that pressing style almost makes a deep bench a necessity, and I think that Anderson and staff could see that Eli was not a fit for their system. They'd rather give that scholarship to someone who will play, even if it's only in 2 minute intervals.

I think you'll see a lot of subbing, particularly in the first half of games, which can be frustrating, but at least there's a means to an end, with Anderson doing it.

I think they are hoping that Steere can be that big body. Unfortunately, we probably won't see him in game action until the contest against Albany, so he may be a bit behind in late December/early January (of course, he'll be practicing with the team, but that's not the same thing).
Your 2 minute intervals and my using in an emergency, (injury, foul trouble), aren't that far apart. Even with running players in and out, which Anderson's system calls for, I can't see him going 13 deep with this team as assembled so far.
Oh, he won't give all players equal minutes, but it will be nice to have options (especially starting in his 2nd year, when it will be more of his team).

Even the great teams usually only go 8 or 9 deep, but they have about 10 or 11 realistic options for those spots. Too often, we've gone 7 deep, with only 7 realistic options to play. That's one thing that I am confident will change for the good, under Anderson.

Eli may be disappointed but was gracious on social media and doesn't seem angry at the staff or program. That indicates that Coach Anderson was transparent with him and a strong communicator in a situation that could easily get awkward or ugly.

I don't think there's ever an excuse to cut loose a kid who is working hard in practice and taking care of his off the court responsibilities. New coaches should feel obligated to fulfill the school's commitment to the player. Even if the player doesn't fit the coach's scheme or their talent level is less than ideal. If they're holding up their end you make the best of the situation. No problem with letting them know that your expectations are different than the previous coach and as a result playing time will be affected. It sounds like Eli was given this information and allowed to make a decision. I don't know Anderson personally but I guarantee that if Eli told Coach he was content to ride the bench and try to earn his way onto the court Anderson wouldn't have forced him out. I hope it works out for him somewhere.

Agree. But just to reiterate what I was alluding to and asking the question about was playing style.

Posters speculating about factors that caused Eli’s departure serves no constructive purpose.

Suffice it to say that one or more events, not of his making, contributed to his departure.

I wish Eli much success in college basketball and beyond.

You have offered thoughts and opinions on many subjects through the years, what only yours are constructive? No one here has wished him anything but success and to say he did nothing to at least contribute to his departure is disingenuous to say the least.

Actually what is being speculated is that one or more things "of his making" contributed to his decision to look elsewhere. I am hoping he gets a waiver by heading somewhere closer to home. I am hoping the same for Rasheem as no player who committed to a different coach should be forced to play for a different coach.

Pretty sure Eli played high school ball in Kentucky.

]Maybe Caraher promised to try "real hard" and Eli didn't

This is one of the reasons I'm really glad we hired CMA. I was getting tired of our old shady recruiter, who is in the same circle with known cheaters like Will Wade, bringing in kids with no loyalty. Not shocking that he now committed to one of the most shady programs in the country. That being said good luck Eli!

And maybe Caraher tried real hard and Eli didn’t. One of the very real things our last two coaches lacked was player accountability. Seems Anderson has it big time.

He's going home. Owensboro is only a 1 hour drive to WKU. He should have gone there out of high school. If he's eligible immediately so will Rasheem Dunn.
Ironically today I visited the Brownsville Collaborative Middle School in Slick's neighborhood where I met with Principal Greg Jackson Jr. He has known Shamorie since grade school and his dad the late Greg Jackson Sr was his mentor at the Brownsville Rec center where he was the long term director. Jackson senior played with World B. Free in college. I grew up 5 blocks from the school. It's a tough neighborhood but these kids have a lot of of loyalty to the old hood and are tough competitors. I'm sure Rasheem will work twice as hard as Eli Wright and will have a nice 2 two years at St. John's.
