Adios Eli

4 star players that need 3 different colleges to get it together just proves that they can't or refuse to put in the work to compete with teammates. Maybe he ends up with the coach that recruited him to St. John's.

wish him the best.

Always a head scratcher when kids refuse to work hard to improve at a game they supposedly love.

Head scratcher :silly:

Good luck to him. Transfer after sitting out a season is a rough spot for him. My takeaway here is that we finally have a coach who actually coaches and expects players to put in the work. It’s a good thing for us in the long run by far. Our last coach was as lackadaisical as they come. We will never find real success that way. Happy to see a coach that has a game plan rooted in success. I can see it’s not for everybody and that’s ok. We will certainly recruit a polar opposite type of player, who needs to buy in. Kudos to coach and good luck to Eli.

I trust CMA and co. on this one...if they see this many red flags this early and he is going to disrupt our team chemistry and goal, then see ya as Michael Kay would say. If you can't warm up to a guy like CMA and feel inspired when he's all about being like a family then it says more about you IMO. Maybe we will actually have some years where everyone is fully committed and on the same page under the new staff. I like how strongly they consider the fit when evaluating guys. That's what good programs do. Villanova has been a well-oiled machine for some time now. The only real drama that got out is Quinerly...and guess what Jay did? He told a 5 star to go pack his bags. I feel that under Lavin and Mullin, fit was not as important as just getting the best available. I think we can get solid to good players and also ensure they will fit.

Good post, Mike - completely agree. I wonder if Sita Conteh, the JC who recently decommitted from Texas Rio Grande is still available.

I completely disagree with this statement. Who are you to say that he needs to get it together, or that he refused to put in the work? There is zero need to essentially bash a kid's character just because he is transferring. And for a lot of the players, it's about more than just basketball. So he went to Miss. State, and for whatever his reasons were, he transferred and ended up here. When he committed here, he not only committed to the school, but also to the coaching staff as well. Well he determined that with the new coaching staff, this school is no longer a fit for him. So be it. Can we really fault him for that?

But your assertation that he is transferring because he can't get it together or refuses to put in the necessary work to compete is just plain ignorant.

Funny, I don't recall you or anyone on here bringing up such an issue while he was one of our players. Now he's not and you fire shots? C'mon. Be better. No need to attack one's character simply because he's now gone.

Nobody is bashing him. Here have been reports Ll summer about Eli not buying in fully. That’s his thing. The kids are working a ton harder under Anderson and I’m guessing it’s not for everybody.

Nice to see that CMA won't accept anything less than 100% commitment. This is Big East basketball and that's how the program should be run.

There are 12-13 players on the team. Not sure I have an obligation to comment on a kid every day. But thanks for your input.

BTW-I am glad you find it funny!

No need to call names. Take the time to digest the post before responding. That is my opinion for all 4 star players that need to attend 3 or 4 schools to play basketball. This new generation of players often have a me first attitude and if playing for demanding coaches or competing for minutes against 2 and 3 star players is a threat then there is no next level for that type of player. Ron Artest and Walter Berry hated to practice but they had God given talent that you can't coach. We agree to disagree.

So you have a blanket opinion for every 4 star player that transfers multiple times? And where did it say anywhere that he 'needs' to attend 3 or 4 schools......he is choosing to transfer....there is a difference. Once again, you are making a generalization about a situation where most of the information presented is all hearsay. Sorry, but that makes you ignorant.

Many of the posters on this site relish "making a generalization about situations where most of the information presented is all hearsay". See last summer and all of the comments made about Mullin. It makes them feel self-important.

It isn’t all hearsay though. This has been heard about for a while.

What was said about Mullin that didn't turn out to be true?

I guess we don't agree to disagree .
I'm not sure what your point is regarding the fact that he will be attending his 3rd D1 school. You have to transfer to effect that as an undergraduate. Duh.
There are exceptions when it comes to needing to attend a junior college before a 4 year college due to academics or the need to grow as a player. Very few 4 or 5 star players need that route because of special admissions standards for athletes these days.
Finally, 99 percent of players will never ever sniff an NBA look. I appreciate those that give it a go at a couple of schools but once you get to a third school the writing is basically on the wall regarding your thirst for an education and your desire to compete for your job.

Damned if you do. Damned if you don’t.

If ppl said what they heard when a kid was still here it’s damaging to the program.

If ppl wait until he leaves it’s sour grapes

Guess we need to just take what we know to the grave.
