I don't think the red uniforms argument loses any validity. I don't think the school thought that plastering a football player clad in red on the back of the basketball warm-ups was a good idea and I doubt the school thought that having a football player clad in a red uniform was going to catch on when he/she was leading cheers at half court. So instead, St. John's probably thought it was a good idea to use Blackjack and a facsimile of a Native American on the uniforms was a good idea especially at that time when this was not controversial. My final point. Wasn't Joe Lapchick's nickname the "Big Chief"?

It most certainly does lose validity when your whole image in terms of mascots and eventually logos for 50 years was associated with an Indian. Not the fact that your football team use to wear all red uniforms before Television was invented. The thinking behind it is irrelevant as it happened and that is what you became.

I am not sure what your point about Joe Lapchick’s nickname is or has anything to do with the team’s nickname other than the possibility it had to do with him being tall, the head coach of the St. John’s Redmen and their mascot being an Indian. With him being in charge like a Chief. I have no idea if that was how or why he got his nickname nor do I know (or care) how Robert Parrish was given the same nickname.

To be clear, I really didn’t care about the name change. IIRC without digging it out, I am pretty sure my dIploma says St. John’s University and Redmen does not appear anywhere on it. St. John’s is the name that matters to me.

As for going back to Redmen after all these years, regardless of whether or not you agreed with the change, would be a bad look and hypocritical based on the reasoning the University gave for the change. Again whether or not you agree with the reasons given or not, those reasons have not changed.

Can't speak for everyone, but at Dutch Broadway elementary we also said that backwards it meant Sex After Dinner Is Definitely American.

And the more classless among us also said it stood for After Dinner I Did A Sh*T

I never knew there was a clause in Miami's contract to ensure they are the highest paid Adidas school. Adding PSU, etc. just makes the bag bigger, which helps the program.

Now with Rick jumping on board, I am definitely warming up to them, even bought a t shirt.
