2025 BIG EAST TOURNAMENT

I'm not sure about more knowledgeable. I'm just saying that I think it holds if there is no underlying reason why one team beat the other twice. If one team is a lot better, or has a significant advantage in something really difficult to overcome then its not hard at all. But, if teams are evenly matched and played two close games then IMHO there likely is a slight advantage to the team that lost both due to adjustments being made and motivation.
As always, meteorologist John with an astute observation.

He did not play well enough against Seton Hall. When he is healthy he can impact a games outcome tremendously! The change in speed of both our offensive and defensive attacks when he relieves Kadary paralyzes our opponents. They react very poorly allowing us to create many turnovers and points off turnovers. That did not happen last 2 games.
Change of speed Smith vs. Kadary, very interesting, like in baseball, a starter with 100mph heat and a reliever with softer stuff throws batters off.

Fair warning, this may give you a headache.

Before the Big East, in the 1974-1975 season, St. John's beat Providence twice by double digits, then lost in the NIT semifinal to Providence, also by double digits. I remember one of the announcers saying it was hard to beat a team 3 times in a row. As others have said, that's not a hard and fast rule.

So not only are you are show off, you are also OCD about proper spacing.

My father used to always say it is hard to beat a team three times in one year. The only reason it holds merit is because of statistics. The more often you repeat a task the more chance you have to fail at that task; no matter how easy or hard it is. The old saying, "these guys would beat those guys 99 times out of 100," means there is always 1 time "these guys" would lose.

Assuming we make it to the finals we'll do so by beating 2 teams 3 times this year. In the final we'd then play a team (Pukon, Hall or G'Town) that we beat twice or a team (Creighton / Nova) that we split with. I feel like we could lose any game from Thursday to Saturday because, well, things happen. Butler isn't a pushover, and Providence has given us fits this year. X and Marquette have a lot to win / lose in this tournament so they will be playing with desperation. Then on the other side of bracket any team in the finals will be playing with momentum.

These conference tournaments are tough because they happen in consecutive days against teams you've played enough that become familiar with their style and learn how to adapt against them. I won't be surprised if we are cutting down the nets or if we go home early. Same thing with Duke in the ACC where they should dominate, but you never know. Either way, it is hard to beat a team multiple times in a year, because of statistics....

Butler opens as a 1.5 point favorite against Providence.

Preference is for an exhausting triple OT win for Butler and HC English post game blaming the team, ushers, air quality and refs for the loss. The man who gave us, “St John’s really only does a couple of things well” 😇

This may be naive, but I think a big factor in holding Deivon out was to give Marquette a completely different look for the semifinal matchup. It’s very hard to beat a team 3x in a season.

BTW how good was Kadary with Stevie Mitchell all over him? That’s one of the best defender’s in the country. If Mitchell stripped any more, Classof2010 would be throwing dollar bills at him.
If UConn can win their first two games, we could have a chance to beat 3 teams 3 times this season. That's a benefit of only losing 2 games in the regular season.

By the way, mathematicians say the odds of repeating something, like winning the lottery or hitting 27 at the roulette table are exactly the same as doing it the first time. IMNSHO, If the players don't have it in their heads and they are the better team, beating a team for the 3rd time is the same as beating them the first two times. Personally, I think having already beaten another team 2x gives a team a strong psychological advantage.

Butler (John Minko) will beat Providence ( Austin Croshere)

Providence discontent and injuries and coach issues. Butler healthier and better coach. That’s why they should win.

I like our matchup even though Butler’s decent. Not Hinkel.

Go JOHNNIES,,,,,,,!!

Roll Call on here for (degenerate?) NYC college BB junkies who go to games their team (the Johnnies) aren't playing in............

(I'm one of them --- advance scouting for our game tomorrow, Rick's sending me, I'll have the clipboard and pencils)

I use to do the same agenda . Get there for the first game among the lower seeds and stay all day , leaving only for dinner with my guys .

Leaving gave us a break , get outside and eat at a decent restaurant , then return for the nightcap

Often the evening games wouldn’t end until near midnight or close .

We had hotel rooms in Midtown to stay over in and usually wound up at Runyons when it still existed or PJ Clarkes before turning in at some ungodly early AM.

Same routine next day , catch all the games and repeat prior days schedule .

Then hang around on Saturday until the finals .

Brook , Rick might not like your penciled in notes from your scouting . Please transcribe them on your I phone so he can circulate better

Give us a synopsis of what you observed in todays games.

Enjoy today !

I'm going but missing the first game to go to Feile for the alumni gathering. Plan on going to the first half of the second game, then home to rest up for tomorrow.'

In my younger days, I used to pride myself on seeing at least some of every game. Those days are long gone.

SLYFOXX your old days are like Rinse And Repeat to mine.

Me and a bunch of guys, did it every year once the BET moved away from Providence, Hartford and Syracuse and became Big Time at the Garden. Our dinners were always at Keens either the first night or second (once both). Or the Landmark Tavern, or once O'Reilly's Pub and then the old Angelo's & Maxies (long gone). Once at Angelo's we ran into Raff and a few guys, he stopped by our table and talked up the Johnnies and the BE. Once at Keens we ran into the Mannings boys they were with some Macy's execs for some reason.

Grand old times, trying to rekindle the spirit.

GO JOHNNIES!

WE ARE ST. JOHN'S!

Hopefully today I'll get to see Annemarie Carey who worked for years in SJU Athletic Dept.
