2024-25 Season

I was at the DePaul game in Chicago where Ayo started in place of RJ. Ricky Marsh, your fellow Manhattan College alum could not believe that Ayo was only averaging 1 point a game. Ayo is a testament to the fact that hard work pays off. If you watch the bench during games, Ayo is always the first on up to cheer on his teammates. Not sure what his motivation for following Pitino to St John's was but the young man seems happy in his role and has definitely contributed when called upon this season. Much respect for the way he conducts himself as a player and teammate.
Feel very good about this young man returning next season. When given the opportunity lately he has really shined. May not be a popular opinion around here but I could see him starting next year depending upon who or whom we do or do not get in the portal. In any event he will be playing far more minutes next season than the past two seasons and I see him getting a minimum of 15 minutes per game next year.

Ayo has a smooth looking '3'. I hope it becomes contagious.

This team is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. Each player contributes to the success of the team, and of the other individual players on the team. (ie. KR makes everyone better.)

Pitino constantly gets on Ayo about his defense. On Vice, press conferences, podcasts, interviews, etc. I expect a big jump on that end next year.

I think Pitino sees DPOY type of potential on that end. I don’t know if he’ll ever get the kind of minutes required to be in the running for that award, but I do believe that is possible for him.

On offense, when he moves to the corner it expands the defense and, in turn, improves spacing for us. He’s marked as a threat on their scouting reports.

He could take a huge jump next year. And then he’s eligible for that 5th year after that.

Manhattan College coach Gallagher said we'll win a title in two years and have highest NIL in country next year.

👀👀👀

That's beautiful to hear.... but have you seen any names (rumored) that are true "studs"? Thinking about last year... even before they entered... we were Floating Cliff / Brea / Daron Holmes... etc.... man Brea would have put us over the top this year...

Any kids besides Watkins that would move the needle?

Watkins would certainly qualify as a stud. He's on more mocks than RJ!

Also think Ian Jackson qualifies as a rumor. His draft stock has dropped to being a borderline first rounder. He would absolutely be the knockdown shooter we need.

maybe its just my BE Bias kickin in...

but gonna be tough to replicate what we did in the Portal last year,,, 1st Team BE players are tough to come by in the Portal

The two reasons I disagree with you are:
1) We've done it back to back years in the portal! Year 1: Zuby and RJ. Year 2: Kadary and Smith. All four of those guys are all BE caliber guys.

2) If we retain who we want, then I also think the mission won't be to replicate next year. We can "replace" some production by the aggregate of who we're returning: expect leaps from Wilcher, Ayo, Dunlap, Lefty and Prey + any other additional improvements from RJ and Zuby. The former five guys will need more time because we can reasonably expect them to be better.

Those are 7 quality guys we should be confident will be in our rotation. Probably have room for two rotation guys?

nah agree... i personally want to keep everyone we have and just fill the holes with the "right" pieces...

i was more saying that this past transfer class... with a BE 1st teamer in Kadary... i dont think we replicate the "Talent" of that class (heck the whole 1st team other than RJ and Zub are out of eligibility lol)... with improvement of those staying / combined with the right pieces- confident we'll be more than fine.
