2024-25 Season

Most fun way to solve it would be the BE to team up with a good conference in a similar situation to have a mid-season challenge.
Most coaches won’t go for that figuring the conference games is hard enough and their team might need an extra day off.

Coach K use to schedule such a game when the ACC was smaller and played everyone in the conference home and home.

I believe each Big East team will have one so-called “long break” between games so Cooley will get one too.

Yeah, just saying that it would be most fun.

Georgetown actually got screwed this year. They played Seton Hall on 12/22, and didn't have a BE opponent until Xavier on Jan 3rd. They were only able to schedule Coppin St in between.

It does seem like every team gets 1-2 (ish) five day stretches without games in Jan/Feb.

It is just like the NFL with every team getting a "BYE week"; I like it as it allows teams to rest and refresh.

Hearing Cooley complain (but not blame) the six day layoff for STJ to prepare for them made me wonder what that is for our big five games coming up. I do think there's some merit to a preparation advantage if a team is given six days to watch film/practice/rest/etc.

2/4 against Marquette: we play against Providence on 2/1, Marquette plays against UConn on 2/1
2/7 against UConn: we play against Marquette on 2/4, UConn doesn't have any game after 2/1 -- especially important for McNeeley recovery
2/12 against Nova: we have five days of no games, Nova plays X on 2/9
2/16 against Creighton: we play against Nova 2/12, Creighton's last game is 2/11 against UConn
2/23 against UConn: we play against DePaul on 2/19, UConn's last game is 2/18 against Nova
3/7 against Marquette: we play against Seton Hall 3/1, Marquette plays against UConn on 3/5 (!)

All in all, we have a clear advantage against Marquette on March 7th. I'd be pissed if the schedule was the other way around. Only one day off before another game against a team with fresh legs?! Similar thing with the @Nova game.

UConn does have a week off before playing us on 2/7, which is a pivotal time for them.

After that, negligible.
Similarly, when we played against Creighton on 12/31/24, their most recent game was on 12/21/24 against Villanova whereas we played Delaware (obviously not a BE game so different circumstances) on 12/28/24 and Piton mentioned the prep time in passing during a press conference.

Wanted to share this here for some more visibility for anyone interested. St. John’s best writer for the NY Post Zach Braziller joined me on the podcast we briefly discuss the Georgetown game but more so it’s a conversation on the special season thus far…why the defense has been so good, what it’s been like for him covering Pitino and a good SJU team finally and where this team can go

The problem with Lavin had less to do with the actual numbers and whether he made us somewhat relevant again(he did, somewhat), and more to do with the fact that the success levels never matched the level of talent he had(except for his first year), and there always seemed to be turmoil surrounding the team. Those are 2 signs of a not so good coach.

As much as I hate to admit this, I agree with most of LMF's assessment of him, and expressed those same concerns about him when he was hired.
Clever. You just knew that if you admitted to “agree with most of LMF’s assessment..” in your opening line, it would have stopped me from reading any further immediately.

I could have saved much needed bandwidth to concentrate on more relevant content, such as reminiscing about the Pittsburgh scandal and subsequent Norm years.

LMF’s site popularity is safely on a path to eclipsing Norm’s. 🥳

Per a survey this week conducted by TheDivorceCenter.com, the divorce rates for St John’s fans have decreased by 60% while separation/break up rates took a dive by 80%. I leave it to Mug & our other stat wonks to analyze how this will effect donations, season ticket renewals and Valentine’s Day. Amazing what impact a successful season can have.
