Actually according to the Sports Reference College Basketball site we were ranked 15 the week of 2/28 in 2011. Not sure if that was AP or coaches poll.I know they finished Lavins first year ranked 18. Probably about as high as they got that year.
Very fair.I defer to @espken on these things - but I'm pretty sure the 2018 and 2011 teams beat someone to get there. I feel as though this year's team is a beneficiary of (1) winning all of its games against good and less-good teams while (2) everyone else loses games here and there.
Not complaining about the ranking but I'd need to see 2-2 vs Marquette and UConn to believe it is actually deserved. Maybe 2-3 if you throw the home Creighton game into the mix.
Fortunately for SJU (and more importantly Mullins Revenge) UConn is still ranked so it provides two of 4 potential opportunities to get a top-25 win.
It was AP, as we were #17 in the coaches poll that weekActually according to the Sports Reference College Basketball site we were ranked 15 the week of 2/28 in 2011. Not sure if that was AP or coaches poll.
Was just looking there and gonna say the same thing. They use AP I believe.Actually according to the Sports Reference College Basketball site we were ranked 15 the week of 2/28 in 2011. Not sure if that was AP or coaches poll.

Thanks for this, I do think it matters. As for Cooleys comment, with an odd number of teams (11) how exactly does he propose a significant change?Hearing Cooley complain (but not blame) the six day layoff for STJ to prepare for them made me wonder what that is for our big five games coming up. I do think there's some merit to a preparation advantage if a team is given six days to watch film/practice/rest/etc.
2/4 against Marquette: we play against Providence on 2/1, Marquette plays against UConn on 2/1
2/7 against UConn: we play against Marquette on 2/4, UConn doesn't have any game after 2/1 -- especially important for McNeeley recovery
2/12 against Nova: we have five days of no games, Nova plays X on 2/9
2/16 against Creighton: we play against Nova 2/12, Creighton's last game is 2/11 against UConn
2/23 against UConn: we play against DePaul on 2/19, UConn's last game is 2/18 against Nova
3/7 against Marquette: we play against Seton Hall 3/1, Marquette plays against UConn on 3/5 (!)
All in all, we have a clear advantage against Marquette on March 7th. I'd be pissed if the schedule was the other way around. Only one day off before another game against a team with fresh legs?! Similar thing with the @Nova game.
UConn does have a week off before playing us on 2/7, which is a pivotal time for them.
After that, negligible.
Add Dayton to the Big East. Thanks for this, I do think it matters. As for Cooleys comment, with an odd number of teams (11) how exactly does he propose a significant change?
