2024-25 Rankings

Here's the teams ranked higher that could still have perfect weeks: Auburn, Duke, Alabama, Tennessee, Houston, Florida, Purdue, A&M.

Tell me who those teams they'd pass are. Certainly not the first 6 unless Florida gets blown out by 50+ by Auburn. Purdue most likely not either. Maybe A&M but they'd be coming off a ranked win vs. Mizzou this weekend so unlikely.

Well this is assuming a worst case scenario where nobody else loses, which is unlikely. Florida for instance is unlikely to beat Auburn and assuming they lose I think we could pass them... but again it's tough to say now because losing to Auburn by 1 would be different than losing by 20.

To answer your question, though, Purdue and Texas A&M. Not definitely, but solid possibilities. To your point several of the most likely candidates have already lost since I initially said that a couple days ago (Michigan St and Iowa St), but I'll stick to top 5 or slightly outside that for now.

Don't see it. Auburn, Duke, Alabama all likely 1's and too many other teams that I think will have slightly better resumes. But, the fact that we're even debating is a testament to how special this season has been.
Only team I'm worried about for that fourth spot is Houston. I think they are least likely to budge out of all the possible scenarios ahead of us. Plus if it's a toss up, committee knows Houston is ironclad lock to not make them look foolish in first weekend.

My hope is that Iowa State keeps plummeting, but then unleashes a three-point barrage on the Cougars in late February.

I agree that it's basically a conversation of one team for the remaining one seed line. Auburn and Duke will get two of them, and another SEC team will get the third one. I also think the SEC likely gets two second seeds as well (Tennessee, Florida) and if things break right, they can even get two three seeds. The level of basketball in that conference is impressive and on a different planet right now compared to the other conferences. I hate the SEC and don't say that with any joy.

The other team I think is a dark horse for a #1 seed is Purdue. I think the Big Ten, as usual, is overrated and I can see them gliding through the rest of the way.

Only path STJ has of a #1 seed is winning out. As much as I love this team, I don't really think that's happening. But if we only lose one more time in regular season (to UConn or Marquette) and win the BET (beating those two teams in the process)? I can definitely see being a number two seed.

The fact that Rick Pitino is our coach is what is allowing us to have a higher ranking than our resume reflects. We need 3 of 5 against the big boys to prove that we are big boys ourselves. Otherwise as fast as we moved up the rankings we Will move down just as fast.
We lost 2 games literally in the 1st week or so of the season…since then we lost 1 game on the road at site that most teams would lose (and we should have won)…we’ve knocked down whoever has been put in front of of us and more than pass the eye test…we deserve our ranking

Committee is going to want to put 11 or 12 teams in from the conference, but where do we draw the line? I personally don't think any teams with a losing conference record should get in. They are the jackasses who wanted to ruin college ball with 100-team conferences, not me.

Hey now our Big East record was 8-10 in 2019, but given how we played in the First Four maybe we didn't deserve a bid. 😆

It's tough because while I agree in theory, right now the teams with a below .500 record are Georgia, Texas, Vanderbilt, Mississippi St, Kentucky.

Kentucky, Georgia and Mississippi St would probably be the second best team in the ACC and certainly be in the top tier of the Big East. Texas and Vanderbilt are probably Xavier adjacent.

I was just trying to figure out who committee would have in there as of right now. I have 11 SEC teams and 69 total. Wasn't sure who to shave.

I don't think that is good for the sport. Football is destroying the basketball product.

If football had just created tournament years sooner and given every conference at least one bid, we'd still have 10- and 12-team conferences. Might have even seen the old SWC rise from the ashes.

Would love to be a 2 seed. Pitino doesn’t lose to lesser teams so we advance and end the curse. Our style breaks the 7/10 playing two games in 3 days. Then anything is possible second weekend.

Within a week's span, MSU has to play Illinois, Purdue, and Michigan. Within a week's span, Purdue has to play Michigan, Wisconsin, and MSU.

Clearly I am biased and expect St. John's to win every game, BUT there is a lot of time left for moving and shaking.
