It was empty for them at Barclays last year, really empty, which is not just a reflection on SJU, but also on the relevance of Syracuse in this market in 2023. It was far from a sea of Orange. It's been basically a decade since they bolted for the ACC and that pretty much eliminated them from being covered or discussed in NYC. And now Boeheim is gone. For anyone under 50 it is like scheduling Wake Forest.
They ran away from this rivalry when SJU started beating them, at a time when SJU could have really used an MSG date with them. Now that we have Pitino and they aren't even predicted to be a top ACC team I lose their number. We don't need them to fill MSG anymore, and better programs will want to come to MSG to play SJU OOC. Of which there are now many.
And actions should have consequences. They have consistently acted in their own interests, period. Which is fine. We will continue to recruit against them in this state. No reason to give Boogie Fland, as an example, any reason to think of this ACC school as local in any way, shape, or form.
Personally, I have no problems with the Barclays Center. I think if you’re driving it’s a pain in the ass compared to UBS and even MSG. I work a block from GC and commute in from Fairfield Cty. Jumping on the 4 train no big deal. Went to both games at Barclays last year.Barclays is tough sell for a lot of people in the tri-state area. We don’t even draw there. I know it makes me think twice.
I see both sides of the discussion. I don’t want to help Syracuse (or Uconn if they bolt), but those games really help us too. And what is to stop either school from having an annual game or two at MSG anyway?
Since the inception of the Big East, we have played 3 non-conf regular season games at Alumni Hall/CA eight times.Anyone know the last time we have only had 3 Non con games at Carnesecca? If ever?
This year I’m gonna have to plan to trek down. Been too long…
I had a feeling you’d be my resource. Thank you!!Since the inception of the Big East, we have played 3 non-conf regular season games at Alumni Hall/CA eight times.
Lou’s final season 1991-92
Mahoney - 1992-93, 1995-96
Fran - 1996-97, 1997-98
Jarvis - 2002-03, 2003-04
Lavin’s first season - 2010-11
Thanks to Pitino, our beloved program is back in public demand.
I love Barclays, only reason because its a five minute walk from my apartment.
Never less than 3.I had a feeling you’d be my resource. Thank you!!
Please don’t do any more work, but did you happen to see while doing this if we ever had less than 3?
Yeah I’m gonna plan it out. Maybe bring my boys down. Please do. Been a long time since it’s been a long time since I have seen you. First round is on me.
dumb question but is huntington to Elmont direct or do I have to get off and transfer at another station ?Barclays is not a bad place to play and is not hard to get to with LIRR and several subway lines that bring you right to the front door. It also has an AMEX entrance which usually is quicker to get
In. LIRR riders just need to suck it up that you will have to transfer at Jamaica.
Barclays public transportation wise is easier than UBS. They had stopped running the shuttles to UBS to and from Jamaica ( they are bringing them back for the Belmont stakes) so it will be Huntington, Ronkonkoma, and Hempstead trains to Elmont and then a shuttle bus or walk.

Barclay's has much better food then MSG, including BBQ from Pig Beach, pizza from Table 87, italian from Parm and they even have a lobster roll for someone with a "discerning" palate. Virtually all items are from Brooklyn restaurantsBarclays is not a bad place to play and is not hard to get to with LIRR and several subway lines that bring you right to the front door. Did someone just say lobster rolls ?Barclay's has much better food then MSG, including BBQ from Pig Beach, pizza from Table 87, italian from Parm and they even have a lobster roll for someone with a "discerning" palate. Virtually all items are from Brooklyn restaurants
For 3 games a year MJM, is it really worth the investment?Did someone just say lobster rolls ?
Imagine if we could get Cragg to have Red Hook Lobster Pound serve lobster rolls at Carnesseca in addition to the beer from last year
If that doesn't put him in Saint Hood Contention I dont know what will
You don't know Mike very well. For 3 games a year MJM, is it really worth the investment?
