2021-2022 Schedule

I see an exhibition against Baruch for 10/27 on the schedule listed as ESPN3 but it does not seem open to the public. Is it students only again?

I had the same question.  Apparently they are part of the season ticket package; all other games are there but not the Baruch one. I was told all games were uploaded yesterday by the ticket office. An e-mail today also said they are available for $10 but I see no link to buy online anywhere.

Anyone know if there is a deadline for adding games to your OOC schedule?   It's probably a pipe dream but I am holding out hope we are still exploring an additional Quad-1 game.

That, my friend, is the pipe-est of dreams.  Even less likely than you beating me this week.

Rumor has it that SJU will be adding UCLA to this year's OOC schedule.  /media/kunena/emoticons/tongue.png/media/kunena/emoticons/sick.png

I really like scheduling Monmouth/Colgate in back to back games.  Monmouth was the MAAC regular season champs last year and Colgate made the NCAA tourney.  These are great games versus competitive teams to get us ready for big east play.  Heck if we dont bring our A game, one of these 2 teams will beat us.

Your best scoring week yet!

FWIW, Kenpom has St. John’s finishing the regular season tied for 5th place with a 10- 10 conference record and 20- 11 overall record.

here is Kenpom’s take

1 Villanova
2 Yukon
3 X
4 Seton Hall
5Tie StJohn’s
5Tie  Creighton
5Tie Butler
8 G’town
9 Providence
10 Marquette
11. you know who

Not a big concern at this point in the season.  Coach has to see what he has and mold them accordingly.

Lost to URI in scrimmage 85-83

Only 27% from 3.  9-33.  Smith went 1-7  Oof !!!

on positive note...83% from FT line..and Coburn was 4-6 from 3.

And also importantly Soriano had 16/9.  He’s gonna help us a ton down the stretch with his offensive ability in the middle.  The results don’t matter right now.  Only thing that does is playing time against solid teams and figuring things out.

Coburn and Mathis played same amount of minutes. Coburn was +22 Mathis was -13.

For half the game we were 22 points better than uri. Need to have shooters between posh and champ.

Stef Smith is capable from 3. What I would like to see is limited 3 point attempts from Pinzon, Wheeler and Mathis. I want them playing to their strengths, and not the other way around. these days, everyone fancies themselves as a long distance shooter. Not the case.

Ray Morgan posted about the abundance of three point attempts and I have to concur. Anderson seems to give all personnel the freedom to hoist up a three whenever they feel it and that strategy backfired quite a few games last season.SJU shot almost fifty per cent from two point range last season but many games we received around twenty five per cent from three.
Dunn was a much more effective offensive player the last half of last season because he finally curtailed the number of threes he threw up.Many teams in today’s NBA have a multitude of reliable three point shooters and are encouraged to shoot at will but I wouldn’t expect SJU to have a roster like that.
Champagnie, Smith and the transfer from Hofstra have reputations of good three point shooters but hopefully everyone else can avoid just throwing up a three within ten seconds. It got old very quickly watching the opposition encourage Dunn to throw up as many threes as he did.

This scrimmage has about as much importance as the Baruch blow out, which is basically close to zero. We're Champ and Posh and a bunch of role players. We won't know how good those role players are till the season starts, and more significantly when conference play starts.

Lets all remember CMA is a defense first coach and as we have now seen the last 2 seasons its takes about 10 games or so for the team to get acclimated to this style, zero worries here, he will get them up and playing D very soon. I'm actually glad they lost little wake up call before they count for real....
