I'm a little disappointed that we are only playing 4 Big East games at MSG, but I really glad to see that we are playing Providence at CA. That'll probably piss Cooley off quite a bit!!

Actually, the UCONN game is Super Bowl Sunday (later date this year, because of the extra game for all NFL teams), so I don't expect a big crowd for that.  As bad as that looks, that's probably one of the few days we could actually get MSG for.  Remember, a lot of dates for concerts/other events had to be rescheduled, something I think Cragg noted when in a twitter chat, when he said we wouldn't have many MSG games this year.

All in all, I think the schedule is a fair as it can be, preseason.  Things like not playing Xavier until mid-February could hurt or help, depending on what their situation is.  I would expect them to be good, but if they suffer a major injury, that could help us.  Conversely, one of their key players could be out a month, and come back just before our first meeting, whereas someone we're in competition with could have faced them twice without said player.  That hurts.  There is no way of knowing this beforehand, or course.

I do like that there is no crazy stretch of Big East play, where we play something like 5 out of 7 on the road.  Things like that do tend to take a toll on a team.  I know that gets made up down the line, but I prefer it this way.

If they can win at Seton Hall (which is never easy, since it's always 5 on 8 when we play those guys), then a 5-0 Big East start is possible, with the four games following that all being winnable, IMO.

No one goes up against the Super Bowl, I'm sure the Uconn game will be early in the day.

My takeaway, not enough games at the Garden, but it is what it is on that score.

I guess the UBS game would have been an added Garden game, so with the Pitt game at the Garden I'm happy enough.

Shanley will be in a funny spot in little ol' CA (too bad EC) when his former school comes into town, he still must have quite a place in his heart for the Friars and all the people there. Come on Father, you got to root on the Johnnies!

The Nova MSG game mjmaherjr's bday. No way we lose ( memo to self dont bet )

Second game is at home against Butler.  I’ve seen a wide array of predictions for the   Bulldogs, from 4th to 10th in the Big East.  I could be wrong, but I believe that they are returning a large part of last year’s roster. We’re so hyped about games against Seton Hall, UConn and ‘Novs that it’s the type of game that makes me nervous — although, to be honest, I could probably say that about every game.  I saw NJIT on the schedule and I had flashbacks to that horrible game several years ago.

Won't be the first game we've played at MSG on Superbowl Sunday.  I recall doing so in the 90's and having enough time to go to the game, pick up food (previously ordered) and other provisions and arriving home in time to set up for a Superbowl party.

Exactly. Happened a number of times.

Happened in the eighties as well as CBS (I think) would televise SJU vs Georgetown prior to Super Bowl to capitalize on our rivalry with them.

Does anyone know if there is a firm tipoff time for the Pitt game on December 18th? I'm toying with the idea of a trip to NYC with a visit to MSG for this game but would be an easier sell for me at home if it was an afternoon game.

Most likely an afternoon game since it is on a Saturday.

Thanks Panther. Will let you and MJM know if I do decide to get up for that one; would love to meet up at the game if we do. Not sure as we will be up for my youngest daughter's wedding in Jersey at the end of October. But if I don't make the Pitt game I will make the Big East tourney, God willing.
