2020 BIG EAST MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

If we can get past Georgetown we can make a run. We know we can beat Creighton and they would be next.
But Georgetown is tough. They have an inside game that we cant compete with

I’d be happy with one win. It doesn’t seem far fetched to suggest we could lose in the big East final to seton hall or nova...except for the fact I don’t think we can play consistent enough in three straight days against any 3 big East opponents. That being said, gtown then creighton then butler/providence are all winnable games.

My realistic prediction is we beat gtown but then lose big to creighton. Night to noon turnaround against a team hungry to avenge the embarrassing loss we handed them seems like a bad combo.

Just get to thursday at noon because that crowd at noon will be very pro sju

We are playing well right now and are due to beat Georgetown. Let’s get this done.

Will beat GT but fall in tough noon recovery game subsequently. Hate that turnaround, but you reap what you sow.

Per Adam Zagoria
Creighton coach Greg McDermott says Marcus Zegarowski will have an MRI today and he has 'no idea' if he'll be able to play this week in the @BIGEASTMBB Tournament.

Mike Anderson: “It’s not my first rodeo, so for all the haters, keep doing it. I’m even more motivated than I’ve ever been. Whether I’m a country boy, city boy, I’m loving St. John’s and I’m loving New York.”

Mike Anderson: “I don’t know about spoiler. We’re just playing good basketball. Our season has been a lot of almost. Now people are not only worried about LJ, but some other players. We’re playing a pretty good brand of basketball, and we’re making shots.”

Mike Anderson on Georgetown: “They love to pound the basketball inside and get to the free throw line, so that’s gonna be my biggest concern, on the glass. The last time we played them, we caved in a little bit.” #sjub

Zegarowskis injury was non contact. If Im creighton, regardless of the MRI, Im not playing him until the ncaa tourney.

We just need to get past GTown and then its on. Thats the game im very concerned about. They have our number.

The first game is always the most important game. Gotta win the first one. If we do, I think we’ll beat Creighton in the rubber match. But can do anything until you beat GT which isn’t a given, I don’t care how many players they have out.

Wasn’t it just last week that someone on this site that claimed Anderson was considering leaving? Based on these comments that sounds ridiculous. Maybe those people were joking? I honestly stopped reading because I thought it was crazy talk.

It was crazy twitter talk started by someone with a vendetta. It was just posted on here as an FYI

Thanks. I literally stopped reading that thread. I don’t know the context of Anderson’s quote about the first rodeo but that sounded like someone who is all in, long term.

of course. This is the best job hes ever had. He has a chance to win the best conference in college basketball if he cant recruit some studs.

year 1 has been a phenominal success. Year 2 this program is going to skyrocket.

I would not set this up in your head as “oh if we get past Georgetown we can beat Creighton with no Zegarowski”.

We’ve been in this 8/9 game quite a few times. And we usually win it. Then get our ass beat the next day. Throw in the fact that Creighton will be out for revenge, that noon game the next day would be incredibly tough.

It’s still ridiculous we’d have to play at noon. But is what it is. Hopefully we can make a run.

Per Jon Rothstein:

Big East Teams - NCAA Tournament

NCAA Tournament Locks: Creighton, Villanova, Seton Hall, Marquette, Butler, Providence
On The Bubble: Xavier
Potential Bid Stealer To Watch: ST. JOHN'S

Totally making these numbers up, but my best guess:

0 wins: 80% NIT odds
1 win: 95% NIT odds
2 wins: 100% NIT odds
3 wins: 50% NCAA odds (maybe lower/higher, would be nice to revisit)
4 wins: 100% NCAA odds (auto bid)

That win over Marquette really was HUGE. It makes the BET a lot less stressful given that we're probably already in the NIT. Absolutely worse case scenario: we lose Wednesday, miss the NIT, but CMA still keeps his winning streak. Pretty much will be a successful year no matter what happens, with the one exception being a mass exodus of transfers after the season.

Id say about 20% if we beat gtown, creighton and providence. Not having that 20th win will not look good. Although our quad 1 wins will be there.

Lets be honest though, we havent won back to back big east games all season. Winning 3 or 4 in a row would be a miracle.

Duke- that's very possible. I haven't looked into it much given that it's a long shot to win 2 let alone 3 games, but nice that we have some chance at dancing just by winning 3 games.

Also I know we're all sick of the noon Thursday game, but I believe that time slot is intentionally assigned to protect the #1 seed. Stating the obvious here, but the real problem is we haven't been out of the 8/9 slot in years. Even during a fantastic year like this one where 9 BE teams had Tourney worthy resumes by Christmas, only 7 still have Tournament worthy resumes by the BET. 8-10 slot teams never have good resumes and the Big East has little incentive to change the schedule so that the #1 seed (usually Nova) has a better chance of being bounced immediately. Going forward we'll need to finish top 7 regardless to have a realistic chance of dancing.
