Whether here at this Site or, at other Programs . A lot of things get twisted by those who are Twisters . It’s a lot like politics today , regardless of which Party is your preference . But , I digress .., Some here wondering why UCLA runs through Coaches like a bad movie that only gets through its first week showing , never to be heard from again . Anyway , UCLA fans , like may of the Blue Bloods or , more accurately former Blue Bloods , has unreasonable expectations . Their fans want the reincarnation of John Wooden and he isn’t available . Indiana has gone through a merry go round since Bobby Knight and Archie Miller is likely 1 or 2 seasons away from joining Mike Davis , Kelvin Sampson , Tom Crean elsewhere than Bloomington . Calipari ? Despite a philosophy that churns faster than a NBA Roster , he’s not winning as many Championships as the Wildcat faithful demand . He could soon leave if the Banners don’t return . Duke ? How could they lose this year and not be in tonight’s game ? Must be Coach K made a mistake somewhere ? Chris Beard ? Sure he caught lightning in a bottle this season and is the new darling of this Site and others but , he’s a middle aged Coach , with not a lot on his resume besides Ark -LRock and TT . What happens , if he leaves , goes to UCLA or , somewhere else , and loses ? Think they keep him ? Not likely . He could follow the likes of Ben Howlsnd , Steve Lavin and Steve Alford right out the door . How about Jamie Dixon , could not continue winning at Pitt in the ACC and leaves for TCU and leaves the Panthers a mess . Yet , gets a nod from UCLA and can’t work a deal . In the BE , many on this site near deify Willard at SH , yet he had a losing record like Mullin for 4 years there until the Whitehead , Delgado years . Posters here crucify Mullin but , few comment on how SH should have been the 8-10 team and 7 th place finisher , all on a bad call against us . Otherwise Mullins team is 9-9 in theBE . And, 3rd place is ours . Mart A leaving ? A catastrophe ? Hardly .. He did a good job recruiting Transfers , period the end. Who were his best ? Simon , Clark and Figgy . Doubt he had much to do withHeron . Let’s see how he does at Nebraska ? Think Hoiberg will let him run a practice or coach free throws ? Matt , while valuable , was a 1 trick Pony and his role won’t change . He’ll get Hoiberg a few transfers and maybe make them respectable in the BiG 10 for a season or 2 but , they aren’t going into the top tier of that league , ever ! And , how come the Critics don’t mention the free pass that was universally awarded Mullin in his first season with the empty cupboard that Lavin left ? How they have forgotten . Everyone touted the talent on this Season’s team as if it were Superior to every other BE team . Here’s a clue . It wasn’t any more talented ! BE Coaches only predicted a 4 or 5 th place standing in the pre season poll . Pretty accurate , if you factor in the SH game . I often wonder how many of the Team’s Critics are Alums ? And , if so , how many write a check each year to the School ? Lastly , it’s totally unfair to assess Chris Mullin with the 20 year Doldrums of this Program . That’s a complete different issue . Largely attributable to the Administrstion , before President Gempesaw .
Heron was 100% Matt A. Mullin never even talked to him before committing.
Matt A had Femi lined up and Mullin couldn't be bothered to meet him and close the deal.
You should give Matt A and Greg credit for the 20 wins, since they did the recruiting and coaching.
Yes, Williard was on the rocks, but him and his staff brought in talent. We're leaking talent (Ponds and Mack). We currently do not have a single PG for next season.
Chris was brought here to compete with Villanova for championships not replicate Seton Hall. Period.
That is why he was given resources that Lavin and Roberts were not given. The Slice contract alone was something SJU would not commit to under any other coach. That was the whole point. To get from B to A. Instead we have gone from B to C. It has nothing to do with patience.
If you are going to make an argument over treating a coach poorly then you should be making an argument against firing Lavin in the first place. Lavin's five years including his last 2 were infinitely better than the current 4 year stretch. And again I am not a Lavin fan and I had no problem with him being fired. But how can you argue patience and then justify firing a guy who already accomplished more than the current guy. That is complete hypocrisy.
Again if you are going to argue with patience and treating Chris "fairly" which is ridiculous in my mind anyway, then you should be the first to say under the same standard in retrospect SJU should not have fired Lavin. Period.
. Hmm, I get you are a Lavin supporter despite the denial . But , a few points . First , did you ever see Mullin play , here , in the Olympics or NBA ? He was possibly among the most savvy of players, with little of the Athleticism if Michael Jordan . And, I’m not comparing him to MJ but , in many games the Bulls vs Warriors , Scottie Pippen could not guard Mullin from scoring 40 and nether could MJ . Of course , Mullin could not guard MJ either , who went for 44. But , I digress . As for Coaching , I do give Chris more leeway than Steve as he is the Best Player in the School ‘s history . And , he was left a almost Division 3 Roster by Lavin , in his first year . Year 1 is not Mullins fault . Most fans here gave Lavin a pass for the Season that Dunlop Coached when Steve has Cancer . That team was the freshman year of DLO, HRkless , etc and they lost more than they won . So , I support giving Mullin the duration of his contract , if he wants to continue , as was done with Roberts and Lavin . Remember too , Mullin did not solicit this job , the University called on its’ favorite Son to come here and help us back to some prominence . I think he’s done ok with the Players he has had . This was not a team of Superstars , except Ponds and if not for a bad call vs SH , we finish 9-9 and 3 Rd place in BE ... A improvement from past Years for sure . And , a NCAA bid regardless of where we were positioned . And , think about this for a minute . Did Marquette have a good , if not great season ? Yet , they lost 6 of 7 to close the Season and if you read their Board , Wojo is part of the reason ..They haven’t been too complimentary this off season , much like many here . So , Mullin deserves a little more time , in my opinion which is just as important as any who feel differently .
:woohoo:
This one should be plastered as a sticky on redmen.com
In fact there are about 6 or so posters who have some real doozies overall the last few days....ahh hell just move on I guess...
Not only is he a hypocrite, but he's a blatant hypocrite.
Most of his posts lacks any kinda logic anyhow, so his response to you wasn't anything out of the norm.
