2017 Transfers

Michael Weathers, Miami of Ohio transfer, won't be visiting St. John's, per source. Doesn't seem like a fit. #sjubb

I liked his assist numbers but not his 22% three point shooting.

I guess he didn't want to sit behind Simon, Ponds, and Heron.

In my opinion, Heron would be a tremendous pick-up for us.

Aside from reeling in a fifth-year big with good numbers who can play right away, and with the exception of grabbing a big-time-program stud like Mustapha Heron (we should be so lucky), I'd much rather see us concentrate on signing HS seniors like Luther Muhammad who can play right away than having us fill up the roster with transfers from mid-majors (or even lower), some of whom have put up less-than-stellar numbers. Weathers, as noted, shot .221 from 3-point range and turned the ball over 5 times a game (for an abysmal 1-to-1 assist-to-TO ration) for a team that finished dead last (4-14) in a mediocre conference; and Kiss shot .408 from the field and .277 from 3-point range from a team that went 7-13 in the MAAC and 10-21 overall. Just not getting the interest in signing guys like these when we've been led to believe we're in good shape with the '18 and '19 HS classes.

Matt will have earned that extra cash from his recent power play if he manages to pull this one off.

Why are they mutually exclusive? Spots will open up every year. You can sign three transfers this year ands still have 3 open ships next year. To me that is the benefit of sit out transfers, they are ready to step in and play.

Right now I am only feeling good about Achiuwa out of the 18-19 names mentioned. Thinking the transfer game might be the best choice for future prosperity I believe

Our last two transfers were highly recruited HS seniors who came from elite programs -- Michigan State and Arizona -- and if we're going to continue to go down that road, fine ... but I'd like to keep our sights on players of that caliber and not guys with iffy credentials from last-place mid-major (and lower) programs. We should be selective, not desperate.

Why do we keep mentioning Heron have not seen any evidence that he is showing any interest to SJU Or i'm I mistaken

Agree. Heron if interested would be great. Like Donnell from Michigan. Jeter from Duke. Also like UConns decommits and defectors. Duquesne guy from NYC would be great.

Hard to argue since he has not even confirmed that he is transferring.

Paultz's avi gives me a sliver of hope

We go from one of our smallest backcourts ever (Lovett and Ponds) to one of the tallest (Simon and Heron) in just a season.

Amazing how these things work out.

What's more amazing is when everyone will complain that we need a small guard.
