2016-2017 Season Thread

Just so I'm clear.
Unless Livingston comes, the 16-17 roster is set? Everyone else are sit outs.

Correct?

If Kostas comes he would be a freshman and eligible to play come next November.

Per Rothstein,

Gavitt Games matchup for 11/18: St. John's at Minnesota, sources told @CBSSports. #sjubb

The talent upgrades on St. John's roster over the last 12 months is staggering. Still a ways to go on floor, but pieces are there. #sjubb

What many of us have been saying since Shamorie committed. The parts have to blend together , the coaching staff must require a greater commitment to defense and we need a little luck other than bad luck. If everything works out well 18 wins is possible , 15/16 far more probable but that could get us an NIT birth which would be great.
All very positive.

If we add a big body in Livingston, who can hopefully add physicality & keep Sima fresh, I agree with you North.

I know I have been very optimistic about next season and I still stand by my higher expectation of ncaa berth next year...these guys ponds and Lovett alone make a huge difference in end of the game decisions, ball control and hopefully foul shooting which this year alone would have netted us 5-6 more wins......very excited to see these 2, bashir, fredenberg and owens added to yakwe, sima and mussini/Ellison....and a year under the belt for the coaching staff
ponds over the past year has really been playing like a 5 star guy......just a late bloomer in the rankings so only so far he can go......definitely excited

Eric
1,Being on the optimistic ( but realistic) side myself, I agree with your post and I'm starting to think - barring injury or some unforeseen issue - we will make a tournament...which one we shall see
2.As far as the big bad BE, we have improved and likely a few others have "come back to the pack"
3. No matter the 2016-17 outcome, the Red Storm is better, getting better still, and moving in a successful & exciting direction...its " fun" to be a fan these days, new Louie like epoch it seems...
:)

We have absolutely nothing to lose thinking tournament!

Eric, I agree that Ponds and Lovett will make a huge difference. One major positive I see with these two is that teams will not be able to press us with much success next year with Ponds and Lovett handling the ball. Especially if we get some leads in these games, teams usually try and press in order to create turnovers and get back in the game. That will be tough for opponents to do with those two in the game. I too an optimistic and think we can be an NCAA team if things break right for us.

Per Rothstein;

Syracuse will host St. John's on December 21st at the Carrier Dome, source told @CBSSports. Part of multi-year series. #sjubb

This is on an nfl sunday, but I'm sure it won't stop Wildcat nation from packing the place. Per Rothstein:

Our game probably will be, but Kentucky fans tend to pack any arena, at anytime, against any opponent. You'll probably still have to buy tickets early to ensure good seats.

They should make it general admission, with us playing first, so the place is full for our game.

Not crazy about us being the front act for a UK game in New York City.

May be unfortunate but just the way it is until we can fill arenas anywhere. MSG and Barclays are far from being in the charity business.

Plus, I don't think we can ever compete with the Kentucky fan base no matter how many championships we win. They are truly in a league of their own when it comes to fan support. No other school comes close.
