#STJbb Youth Movement continues as 2012-13 roster will have 11 underclassmen on scholarship. Likely youngest team in the country next season
This answers the Wood and Hooper questions.
Gift and Sanchez are the only uperclassmen.
Good find, Tom. Wood is very important to this team next year IMO...glad to see he is expected to be ready to go. He's not going to be a prolific scorer like Harrison--few freshman ever come in as ready to score as Harrison--but he could be our second best pure scorer and can shoot! It is criminal he is not a top 50 recruit.
Uh 11 underclassmen and 2 upperclassmen is
Harrison
Greene
Dom
Amir
Obekpa
Jones
Marco
Hooper
Jakarr
Branch
Felix
Gift
Sanchez
Bye bye Wood.
Yeah, only way that would change is if Hooper was not on scholarship, but I think Lavin said he'd be on scholarship.

Hooper is not on the roster until 2013-2014. I've heard that he will walk on, and I have heard nothing of Wood not qualifying outside of PM's from posters.

He still counts. You have said for awhile that he's a walk on. I'm not buying it. The talk is Wood is going JUCO. You haven't heard his name mentioned in a long time. STJ hasn't commented on him because he's not cleared yet.
WARNING - STOP READING NOW IF HISTORY LESSONS UPS SET YOU!
FWIW - Lavin has a history of convinicing D-1 transfers to walk-on DURING their transfer years, and going on scholarship the following year, when they are eligible to play - Moose Bailey from Penn State in 1998, Jon Crispin from Penn State in 2002, and Brian Morrison from North Carolina in 2003. All 3 had been starters at their previous schools. He also did it with a 4th player - John Hoffart a 6'10 260 lb center from Cal Poly San Louis Obispo - but big NJohn hadn't been a starter. I'm assuming it's easier to get a guy to agree to a 1 year walk on if he's coming from a school that didn't HAVE athletic scholarships, and where ne didn't play at all...
Not saying this is the case, just that it's Lavin's history with transfers. Even perceived big time ones. Crispin had been the starting SG along side his bother Joe on Penn States Sweet 16 team his last year there. Moose Bailey jad just set the Penn State record for assists for a freshman after starting every game (PSU's regular PG went down with a knee in fall practice - he was coming back with 2 yeas eligibility and the coach guaranteed him his starting spot back - Moose didn't want to sit on the bench for 2 years 2,500 miles from home). Morrison had been North Carolinas sometime starter, 3rd guard, starting games at both PG and SG - had been 3rd in assists, 4th in scoring, led the Tar Heels in 3 pointers as a soph before transferring.
Summer games and practices will have a much different look with all of the shooters roaming the court. I am most excited to see Bourgault. He seems to have the handle, IQ, and skill to be a point-forward in the open court and someone that can make things happen with more than just his shot in the halfcourt. Not a star by any means, but possibly a kid that can have a JB2 type impact.

Bourgault will get more PT than some may think this year, simply because he'll be one of the most advanced offensive performers on the team with solid understanding of offensive ball movement, handle and shooting ability.

How's his defense? Good enough that he's not a liability or do you expect that others will cover for him, especially with Obekpa and Sanchez back there?

Haven't seen enough of his defense. He's not slow though. He's just not on springs like so many of our other players.

That's good that he's not slow. A little foot speed and his height should allow him to hold us own, which is all we should need given the level of defenders we should be surrounding him with.
