#11 Marquette (MSG), Tue., Feb. 4, 6:30p, FS-1

It’s no secret Shamorie was 1 of my
Favorite players . Over the last 25 years .

He needed a PG to play next to him but , didn’t have one after Lovett left.
They were awesome together.

Yes , he always lit up Marquette in the Wojo years . I forget who the Marquette guard was that shot all the time and was the BE scoring leader .
But , he could not Guard Ponds and Shamorie made him look silly on Defense .

I don't know if anyone else answered this with four pages left to read but it was Markus Howard. Shamori averaged 29 per game against Marquette his last two years including a paltry 19 in one.

Let me tell you a little baseball story. Macaroi plumbing vs Chisties jewelers. Packed crowd. We huddle at the mound and my dad said " remember the first time we got blown out ? Whoever thinks we are losing tonight step off the field. Whoever thnks they should pitch tonight other than mike lets go throw 5 minutes on the side and you decide "

" we chose to talk shit but to get our ass kicked our mistake by then but Jesus fucking god spare mercy on their asses for what we are about to do to them ' but no matter what when we do kick their asses we don't show it. You don't smile or point., At the end of the game we point to carvel and that was all

I find the term out curious. It must not mean sold or they'd say it. I notice that they've opened up the backs of the 200 sections and lots of tickets still available there including whole sections that must have been held back for some section. Does "out" equal open for sale? PS not a single seat available in 114. They must have thought Mike was back already.

Just win. Win pretty. Win ugly. Be down by 30 & come back to win. Be up by 30 & barely hang on to win by 1. Shoot 1-30 from 3 and win. Turn the ball over 25 times and win. Win on a lucky call that clearly bails us out. Have the entire team get food poisoning and publicly crap their shorts so that they have to keep mopping the floor throughout the game in front of a packed MSG but WIN. WIN THIS GAME.

As a side note…while the Mullin years were often an exercise in frustration it was great how for some reason Ponds always showed up against Marquette. He would just turn into a machine for some reason. Here’s highlights from his 44pt game to pass the time. That was a fun one.

Thanks for posting the video. I see myself and my son 13 seconds into the video in the first row. Was given great seats by a fellow poster. That was a fun game.

Simon wasn’t a PG . Mostly a small forward . Couldn’t throw the ball in the Ocean but , a excellent defender and could jump out of the gym.
Simon could jump over the Rim and still miss the shot from 3 inches .

Likeable player, crowd favorite but , he and Clark could shoot 3-23 from 2 point range .

And , often did .
The good thing about Simon was that he didn't take many 3's> He actually made about a third of them mostly from the corner when he was left wide open and he could get off a set shot. He shot a good percentage from 2 because he dunked so often.

The reason this team can do well in the tourney is we don’t rely on our offense or shooting to win. Teams that are not great on defense and rely on offense can have an off night of shooting and be beat. . Some feel our lack of shooting will eventually cost us but to me our defense is so good we will always be in any game we play.
Our defense makes us tough to beat. A small improvement in our offensive consistency these last six weeks or so would help a lot as well.
