As a 33 year old, the STJ/X game was the first one in awhile where I actually felt "not young" at. In a good way. lolIt has not, Tuesday night is still a going out night. They should be going to the game which I think they will
Just win. Win pretty. Win ugly. Be down by 30 & come back to win. Be up by 30 & barely hang on to win by 1. Shoot 1-30 from 3 and win. Turn the ball over 25 times and win. Win on a lucky call that clearly bails us out. Have the entire team get food poisoning and publicly crap their shorts so that they have to keep mopping the floor throughout the game in front of a packed MSG but WIN. WIN THIS GAME.
As a side note…while the Mullin years were often an exercise in frustration it was great how for some reason Ponds always showed up against Marquette. He would just turn into a machine for some reason. Here’s highlights from his 44pt game to pass the time. That was a fun one.
It should be self-evident considering that this thread is 22 pages and 11 of them are you saying "must win."I’m not sure what you want me to drop?
A "must win game" is thrown around like calling almost anyone who ever played at SJU "a legend'."
All good players were not legends.
Shamorie was a great one for sure but wasn’t Justin Simon the point guard on that team? That was a team that certainly had enough talent to have a much better season then they did. It’s no secret Shamorie was 1 of my
Favorite players . Over the last 25 years .
He needed a PG to play next to him but , didn’t have one after Lovett left.
They were awesome together.
Yes , he always lit up Marquette in the Wojo years . I forget who the Marquette guard was that shot all the time and was the BE scoring leader .
But , he could not Guard Ponds and Shamorie made him look silly on Defense .

Joe, in the SEC 9 of their 16 teams are ranked and in the Big10 , 7 of their 18 teams are ranked. That’s a lot of opportunities for wins against ranked opponents. The Big12 has only 5 teams ranked but still more opportunities than we have. All teams in those conferences have had multiple games against ranked opponents and some with multiple wins against those opponents even though they aren’t ranked themselves.Name the conferences where teams are playing a top 25 team every other game. Not doubting you but perplexed. But then again I am often perplexed....

Shamories performance against Duke at the Garden was one of the best individual performances I’ve ever seen as a Johnny fan.
Spot on. The season is a marathon not a sprint. All this must win stuff is crazy. We are 19-3. We are 10-1 in the conference that won the last 2 national championships. This is a must enjoy season.
Plus, in order for spell check to work in Peru it has to know what language you're using. Right now it's confused as hell.No just from a different country where it’s summer here and bright as hell out even in the morning while eating breakfast it’s tough for seeing
THISIs there anyone on here unhappy about the season, attendance, publicity, road competence and ranking of this group? I initially thought we would be a top 4 or 5 BE team, so I’m playing w house $ now. Do I think we could be the Dance winner, no. Do I think this group could win a couple of Dance games, yes & who knows w right draw what would happen in the third game. Guess my point is after so much ineptitude for a ton of years, we should appreciate the accomplishments of the squad and staff even if we stumble a bit in the 5 game gauntlet v best BE teams we now face. Enjoy the ride and appreciate the rarity of it at SJU.

I think that Herron and LJ Fig played the small forwards on the 18-19 team and Justin was used as a guard. His specialty was locking down the other team’s best scorer. Averaged 3 assists per game and were it not for his poor shooting would be playing in the NBA.Simon wasn’t a PG . Mostly a small forward . Couldn’t throw the ball in the Ocean but , a excellent defender and could jump out of the gym.
Simon could jump over the Rim and still miss the shot from 3 inches .
Likeable player, crowd favorite but , he and Clark could shoot 3-23 from 2 point range .
And , often did .
