Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

Soriano is probably the only surefire starter on next years team. Possibly Storr. It's entirely possible that Rick said to most or every other kid "you're going to have to earn a starting job and PT". A lot of the kids may not want to hear that, especially Posh. At which point, they enter the portal and then have lots of other coaches offering them starter minutes and guaranteed PT. So, as much as I would love for Posh, Wusu and others to stay, they are basically starting from scratch under a new coach and they'll have to decide if they want that. It sucks, but such is life. Same thing happens when a new boss comes in. What's that ole saying, "a new broom sweeps clean".

Can’t imagine Rick wouldn’t welcome Storr and Gardner with open arms along with Joel. Everything else is a question mark.

Welcoming them with open arms does not mean promising them what CMA may have promised them. Anyhow I did say that he made have may have Storr some assurances. And I was talking about existing players, so wasn't counting Gardner

FUN TIME !

Good, gooder and BEST things are
coming our way.

This is no longer the dull time of the year.

No more reading this site with trepiditation, only
optimism and joy.
No more off season, but pride and optimism 365.

I read a quote somewhere where Gardner’s mom said he would attend StJ’s if Pitino wants him. I can’t imagine why Rick would not want him so I will be surprised if he is not in a StJ’s uniform this coming season.

Re: coaching staff changes - makes sense that Pitino bringing on his guys, but also looking to keep Macon.

Not saying he merits keeping but, No one's mentioned Shoes Vetrone. I think he was the lead recruiter for Yaxel Lendeborg and also had connection to the program AJ Storr came from (may not have been lead)

Who would have thought three years later we’re talking about keeping Wasu and letting Posh go.
Truth...but it makes sense. I still think a defense oriented, 3 years Big East starter has value, but as some posters mentioned, Posh may not want to compete for time and he has been a bit stagnant growth wise. Wusu has grown every year. He came as a bonus with Posh and he has worked his *** (it seems from this outsider) to improve himself. He has improved or maintained most of his stats. He still needs to work on FTs but that was the story of this team too. 239th in FT% this year.

Man, it's been a while. Like many of you I was supportive of CMA for the first 2 yrs. After yrs 3 and 4 it became pretty clear that while he was a good man and a gentleman, he was just not a very good coach in 2023. I won't lie, I did start losing interest in those years. CMA could beat cupcakes but almost any Q1 game was almost an auto L, thus our Big East performances.

Still hard to believe Pitino is our coach. In the last 48 hrs, I've been stopped by so many random people who saw my SJ hat and all they can do is talk about Pitino and ask if I'm excited. Apologies to mods & Paul for past transgressions. It's a new era...and I plan on donating here and also to the program. Don't have Repole $ but I'll do what I can. Exciting times ahead!

Agreed, well deserved in my opinion. Posh has to much pride to stay (if RP wants him) to fight for time. Who knows, maybe a motivating factor for him. As you mentioned, tough to get rid of a defensive presence like Posh.

I think Coach Pitino is doing the same thing he did with Billy Donovan and the UK four. I know Billy tried to transfer to Fairfield U. and either Buonoguro or Terry O’Connor that Rick is right and should put the work in.
