Transfer Portal

Also Monday, ESPN 100 prospect Garwey Dual told ESPN he is decommitting from Providence and reopening his recruitment. A 6-foot-5 shooting guard, Dual is ranked No. 37 in the 2023 class. He never signed a letter-of-intent in the fall despite committing to the Friars last summer.

Dual told ESPN he plans to completely reopen his recruitment and isn't simply planning to follow Cooley to Georgetown.

Now the most immediate question becomes which (if any) of Iona’s players will Pitino bring with him to SJU.

Would he potentially avoid raiding Iona’s stash if they hire one of his guys like Brown as Head Coach?

I imagine most players have signed NILs by now so that might be tough except at schools with coaching changes where they might grant a release. Was perusing 247 and the only top 100 player still available is Bronny. I wouldn't want that circus in my town, just saying. Texas has a couple guys in the top 20 but remains to be seen if Beard leaving will have any impact. Terry was probably part of their consideration process and I think he'll keep the job. Probably gonna be all about the portal and improving what's already on the roster in year 1.

Year 2. Hubert gets fired and he gets Ian Jackson and Cadeau. ;)
Pretty sure NIL is just tied to player being in attendance at that school and is not at all an impediment to transferring player just has to be willing to give up the deal.

From Zach, verry inneresting & apologies if already on here:

Some notes on my conversation with Rick Pitino:
-- Thinks he can rebuild program in months, not years.
-- Was never leaving the area.
-- Wants to get program to what it once was under Louie Carnesecca
-- Will consider retaining Van Macon
-- Made his decision last night after meeting with school higher-ups
-- Said biggest key for St. John's is changing the culture.

Recopied from RP thread...this may mean something or it may not, but gotta like Rick's comments that the rebuild will take months, not years, that he wants to get us back to the Louie years, and that he'll consider retaining Van.
At least it sounds like he plans to be aggressive in the Portal this year and with any solid uncommitted recruits.

I think Walter Clayton Jr is def coming here. He needs a bigger stage. There is a huge roster overhaul coming.
Clayton is better than any guard we had this year, including Alexander. Luckily he is a combo guard that can play both the 1 and 2 equally well so it could keep Posh at the 1 and when he's not in the game, Clayton could slide seamlessly into the point guard position. The kid is a tremendous athlete and good defender.
If he transfers it would immediately upgrade the backcourt to one of the best in the conference.

Good start for Cooley at Georgetown lol. That kid is an absolute monster on the glass. Perfect fit for Cooley and will be a pain for us to play against 2-3x a year

Really like posh but This might be unpopular opinion but Clayton is better and would welcome him here in a second to be given the keys to run the program. Would love if we can get him and keep posh.

Agree. Posh is going to get recruited right over. I see him coming off the bench or transferring.

Former Louisville player that was hurt almost the whole season for Pitino at Iona this year

Talked about him a few weeks ago.

Pitino said he will probably transfer and look for NIL money. May have been Iona's best player and they still won conference in a walk without him.

If he came to Queens would need a waiver.

Lampkin is no more of "glass monster" than Soriano. Not to mention, he's one of those bugs who can only log a certain amount of minutes as he quickly fatigues. He also quit on his team this past season if I'm not mistaken.

Sorry I meant NLI's, typo. Why are those two acronyms so similar.
