Transfer Portal

Hurts recruiting if scholarships are cut. Aside from power 5 there is no such thing as a four year scholarship. Every year scholarship has to be renewed yearly. However if a school gets a reputation of not renewing scholarships it hurts recruiting down the line

injury or poor performance generally are not criteria to not renew a scholarship. Think about it. If your scholarship could be not renewed for poor performance that pressure would force players into trying too hard/hero ball. Plus no recruit will want to go to a school in which their scholarship could potentially not be renewed if they have a poor first season

Don’t want to open up the “raiding Iona” discussion again but I think Rick might already have one. I know it’s the MAAC, but physically he’s not a maac player. And if Soriano were to be here with him, he wouldn’t have to hold down a BE front court alone.

I'm on the fence about Pitino taking players from Iona who plan on leaving anyway. For starters, from what everyone is saying there are only a couple of players who would contribute at this level. So the idea that he would "raid" Iona is a bit of an exaggeration. And isn't one of the main reasons that kids are now permitted to transfer(without sitting out) is because of situations just like this? If a kid wants to follow his coach to a new school, are you going to tell the kid that he can't? I don't like the idea of Pitino poaching Iona, just not sure how he says no to a kid who wants to be coached by Rick, and who has the talent to play at this level.

Exactly, you don’t. It’s about the kids right 😁

Obviously, whatever Rick says goes, if we're lucky enough to get him; but Yaxel Lendeborg seems more 'prospect' than 'suspect'. at this point. Again, if Rick wants Nelly than Nelly it is, but Walter Clayton Jr., would seem to fill a greater need for his scoring ability imho.

Not officially renewed but coaches can and do suggest or urge a player to look elsewhere.
I think the new coach here will have a long heart to heart with Traore. Not a fan of him leaving, but won't be shocked if it happens. I just don't want to be three strikes and we're out with LuHi. And I think Traore's probably way more advanced than Keita at the moment as well, so those two for sure stand out to me as guys who may be getting "the talk."

I'm actually curious to see what King will do. He can clearly play at this level, though might not be good enough to get starters minutes.

If the goal is a deep run in the NCAA tournament we shouldn't be raiding Iona.

A few weeks ago, I thought he'd be 100 percent gone. Bringing in a big name coach may influence some thought processes for sure.
