Around the Big East 25-26

Yes - I saw that I had comments in April and May referring to Smith but I thought the later one was clearer. I liked him as a very solid option for the position. I'm risk-averse, I would have grabbed him and then worried about whether I could land a big fish instead of passing on him. I think the staff may have had injury-history concerns with him but to me he was a guy you get, makes your team better, can hold down the fort and maybe a little more at the position. If you get an All-star to play with him, fine. Very similar to Diarra in that regard. If not, you're good with him plus somebody to eat up 10-15 minutes when he's out of the game. Oh well.
Malachi, like his brother Scoonie, just is a winning over achiever. The Smiths are from Dwight Hardy’s Bronx neighborhood who knows them well. All three are gritty, fearless players.

Oh the great entitled pukon fans. I laughed when late in the game the much exalted karabam finally decided to show up and hit a trey. They showed the fans going nuts. On the next play, the much exalted karaban played matador defense as Peat drove right by him for the easy layup. The fans did not go nuts. :D

We would be just as arrogant as UConn fans if we won so many national titles. They are just grimier lol.

Karaban seems unlikely to be a NBA guy to me, lacking foot speed, but he could be on my college team any day. He seems a good teammate and shares the ball.

Yeah but if he's the experienced senior why doesn't he step up in big games like ua and byu? Either they're not running plays for him, which says a lot, or, his teammates are not looking for him, which also says a lot.

On this team he seems a piece of the puzzle and not main focus. As a four year guy, granted probably overrated initially, he brings maturity and stability to this group imo. Hurley probably agrees.

He was excellent against BYU

He's also 13 for 21 from 3 this year, things are definitely looking good for him this year despite a quiet night against AZ

He scored 21 points against BYU sharing team high scoring honors with Reed. Didn’t play well last night but it happens.

I know everyone is disappointed at the Big East’s showing thus far and what it means for the league and our SOS etc. But, the bottom line is that we need to take care of our business!! We need to win at least 3 or 4 of these OOC games against power conference teams. If we do that we’ll be fine. If we don’t then we’ll probably still finish second in the Big East , which will be a two bid league if this poor showing keeps up, and we’ll wind up in a 7 - 10 game in March.

I was hoping Karaban wasn't coming back. He is the last guy I want with the ball in his hands behind the 3-point arc on that team.

I do feel, though, we are a tough matchup for Pukon. Dillion and / or Bryce should be more than capable of limiting Karaban's bread and butter (the off the ball screen open 3). I also think Ball will have a tough time keeping up with Joson or Ian on the defensive end and doesn't dribble / drive enough to test them too much on the other end. Demary will be a problem and last year Reed was one of the few guys who made Zuby look human on the boards. But even there, getting Zuby the ball consistently should result in Reed putting himself into foul trouble and maybe limiting his impact. I know nothing about Mullins so he is the x-factor in my quick scheme.

Even though they look so far ahead of us as a team; I really do think we match up well with them.

Not so excellent at crunch time. Dybastra stepped up Karaban didn't. I get they're different players but when it counted one showed out.
So it didn't count when Karaban was drilling 3s to build UConn's lead, it only "count" when Dybantsa hit some shots to claw back into the game late? This is silly. Karaban was excellent against BYU. UConn went to other guys in the final minutes (they have several stars outside of just Karaban) it doesn't diminish what he is. Odds are he will hit several big shots for them this year

It's not silly. Dybansta sucked in the first half, but he "hit some shots to claw back into the game late", when it counted and the game was on the line he played great. As I've said before when the pressure was on in the second half yukons senior leader chose to not show up.

And exactly how many shots did he take last night against AU?
