Lee Mazzilli? Love that he's a NY guy, and he was a good player on a couple of terrible teams - but, really?
Uncle Steve is going to make sure everyone on the 86 team gets inducted..... even Lenny if he's not incarcerated.

Agree. He is a good guy, who had a very good career, but falls a bit short of the HOF.Always loved John Franco and never thought he was a Hall of Famer, but if Billy Wagner got in why not Franco.
The HOF is now the Hall of Very Good. Doesn’t bother me but there are multiple players who have gotten in and are “borderline” at best.Always loved John Franco and never thought he was a Hall of Famer, but if Billy Wagner got in why not Franco.

Ya gotta believe, "Tug McGraw".
The more things change…Mets eat David Stearns’ $34 million blunder. Montas is the pitching equivalent of Jedd Lowrie. Of course, that was a Van Wagenen and Wilpon disaster.

Mets DFA Frankie Montas before final year of 2-year, $34M deal
NEW YORK -- Frankie Montas’ turbulent Mets tenure will end after only nine appearances. The Mets designated Montas for assignment on Tuesday, cutting ties with a player who wasn’t going to be healthy enough to pitch anyway. The move is mostly procedural; Montas underwent Tommy John surgery at...www.mlb.com
In ‘24 all 3 pitchers had solid seasons for Mets, w manea slightly better.Last offseason, Stearns prioritized Manaea over Severino, and let Quintana walk and signed Montas. Two huge blunders.
I don’t have a problem at all with the Manaea signing. Maybe with the way pitching is evolving (devolving?), it wasn’t wise to invest in a guy that threw the most innings of his career and 64 more innings (+ another 14 in postseason) than he did the prior season — from a new arm angle. My money is on Yamamoto getting hurt next year for same reasons.Last offseason, Stearns prioritized Manaea over Severino, and let Quintana walk and signed Montas. Two huge blunders.
That should be enough to get us both Chris Bassitt and Jose Quintana!Steve Cohen sells the golden toilet. $12m. Must be nice to have FU money.
Steve - I agree with a lot of that. Manea was a bad signing because of the injury risk, which has been much discussed and was at the time. Severino is more durable and even in a down year outperformed Manea significantly. Manea will continue to get hurt and should probably be a reliever at this point.
I'd take Quintana and Chris Bassitt back in a minute. Both are gamers who know how to pitch. The young guys could learn a lot from both of them. Bassitt is another productive arm we let walk away (although that was before Stearns).
