Mets Hot Stove Talk--2025-2026

Always loved John Franco and never thought he was a Hall of Famer, but if Billy Wagner got in why not Franco.
Agree. He is a good guy, who had a very good career, but falls a bit short of the HOF.

However — and forgive me for sounding sappy — but if his daughter is posting on social media about how he deserves to be in the HOF, then he already made it, as a dad. Being a great dad who is loved by his family, is the biggest blessing and recognition a man can receive.

The HOF is now the Hall of Very Good. Doesn’t bother me but there are multiple players who have gotten in and are “borderline” at best.

At their best, Wagner was more dominant than Franco, but neither belong in the Hall.

Closers are tricky. I value the ones who inherit the toughest situations on the biggest stage. Those are very few because it also depends on the success of the teams they're on ie Mariano. Guys like Trevor Hoffman have had long-term dominance, but as Tony Soprano said, "He ever been put to the test?"

Mets eat David Stearns’ $34 million blunder. Montas is the pitching equivalent of Jedd Lowrie. Of course, that was a Van Wagenen and Wilpon disaster.
