Thank You and Good Luck Sim

PRick Pitino. What a gem. I love it. LOL.

Maybe Rick is a prick. Maybe he encouraged some to seek shelter elsewhere...

Don't know for sure, nor do I care. My loyalty is to the team, and he is the HMIC. We would not be here without him, and I am appreciative for all he does - the good and the bad.

And that's basically that.... Not much will change on that end.

Sit outside went the way of the Dodo bird and will not be coming back (courts won’t allow it).
SJU85, I am not sure that the courts would not uphold that arrangement under the current (semi)pro system. Tose cases, I believe were under the old amateur system. Now, it seems, guys will probably be free to negotiate whatever they can/want. If that is what they negotiate, then so be it. Maybe the NCAA would be free to impose a sit out under these circumstances. I just don't know if it's been determined if that is something that would or would not fly under this wild west system. Some means (maybe not that) needs to reign in this craziness. I am not sure the old cases would be definitive under this kind of playing field. If the NCAA can't impose a sit out under these situations, then why can they impose academic standards, class attendance or other requirements of the rules? I think that it is unknown where it winds up.

For most of us, we need to get used to the new NCAA (until it changes), expect a roster overhaul every year. I fully endorse the transfer philosophy of RP. You get seasoned assassins to get you deep into the tournament. Can't get attached to these kids, they are going to move around.
Exactly this. And we'll have had Zuby and Ayo for 3 years. Who knows when the next time we'll even be able to keep a player around that long.

It’s possible that Walter Clayton not following Rick out of Iona was not just a matter of NY/Florida geography, that RJ’s departure wasn’t just about the benching, and that Sim and Brady’s exit isn’t just about being ‘recruited over.’ It’s possible that in addition to being a HOF coach and a great teacher, Rick is also a bit of a prick.
You were gone an entire 31-5 season, but show up for this?

Never seen the kid play but based on stats and competition, I’d rather have Sim. I recognize it’s the portal era but the good teams generally have a decent core of returnees. I’m not convinced Sellers or the Arizona State kid will be better than Sim. Let’s see who we bring in the next couple of weeks but I’m skeptical that we will be a top 10 team and that’s assuming Jackson is coming. Can’t even imagine what this Board will be like if we close the deal the deal with him.
They are going to be much better than Sim. Thats why Pitino recruiting them over Sim.

How is anyone doubting what Pitino is doing here?

He saw Sim up close for 2 years and it just wasnt good enough.

The standards are high here now. National championship high. Its not for every kid.

Sim moving on is a result of the system the players sued for and won. Prior to the transfer portal the players transferring into SJU this year and replacing Sim would have stayed at the school they were enrolled in rather than sit out a year.
Now Sim will sign on to another school causing a player to lose his job. Pitino didn’t create this system. He is just trying to adjust to it and this is what the players wanted and got but there is a downside.

I guess you root for the front of the jersey now but I am loosing enthusiasm for this system. Pitino developed Wilcher for two years and wanted to see the results. I think he has a ton of talent and hope he plays great wherever he winds up.

Not sure how many of us are out there, but I was nervous as hell every time Wilcher had to handle the ball.

I personally need someone who will not make me nervous at all, especially if we end up taking a loss on the defensive side of the ball with his replacement.

I hate that he left, but a large percentage of that might be because I thought he represented breaking into the Jersey market once and for all.

The writing was on the wall for him. Too much of a minutes squeeze at the 2 and 3, and despite not having a PG Pitino never came out and said Sim was the guy there. At best he was going to split PG duties.

Hate to see him go.

With that said both Sim and Brady were close to transferring last season, so I’m not surprised that both jumped in this year.

Coaching staff wanted both to stay but both felt a change of scenery was best for them. I wish them both the best.
Thanks for the insight. It’s the unknown that frightens me.

The way I see it (putting emotion aside because I wanted Sim back), the reason he decided to move on was because he didn't improve enough to lock in a starting spot on the team in what will be his junior year. Sadly, that's just part of the current reality were faced with in college basketball. Plenty are making the same decision.
