#11 Marquette (MSG), Tue., Feb. 4, 6:30p, FS-1

Just so you are aware, trying to get in good with Lawman by agreeing with him on Shaka, will get you nowhere.
There is no "in good with Lawman," I hate everyone equally. OK fine, I hate some people more than others.

As for Shaka, he is an outstanding recruiter, he is the king of positive reinforcement, he does a great job designing a system for the players on the roster and getting them to execute it. This is why he ends up with Top-10 talent every year and has a ranked team every year.

His problem is that he does not adjust to the opponent very much and he also does not make many in-game adjustments, and that has worked to his disadvantage for many years now. If you have multiple NBA talents on your roster and keep going home by the end of the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament, you're missing a tool or two in your toolkit.

He is a solid A- as a coach. You just can't put him in the same conversation as the real masters of the craft - and SJU now has one of those which does not bode well for Team Shaka.

Good thing LMF does not dig in and is a highly flexible thinker. 👀😎🫣

When he proves me wrong I will become flexible. But 10 or so consecutive first-weekend exits with the players and rankings his teams have had are not compelling evidence that he is John Wooden in disguise. TBH he's more like Jim Boehim but I don't know that discovering the 2-3 zone will help Shaka these days.

Well he did make it past the first weekend last for whatever that’s worth. Sure not much 😂

That’s very likely three hall of famers

Marquette has shown , like us , they are capable of putting 1 great 1/2 together and 1/2 stinko half together .
If they try and Zone early , try and get KR toflash into the lane for his unstoppable pull up jumper .
I’m sure Pitino and Crew already have their strategy established . But , I couldn’t resist my fandom opinion anyway . I tried to refrain but , failed .
As for the Lapchick - Louie question posed in a previous post , this is my take . Since I was a Freshman at the time , I was familiar with the story .
Lapchick should have been given a Waiver on the age 65 Retirement age . Why ? Because if was nearly a done deal that Alcindor ( Jabbar) was coming to St John’s . Kareem has as much as said so.
Lapchick had developed a special relationship with Alcindor and his parents and they wanted him to stay home .
Forcing Lapchick to Retire did not put the University in very good light . Joe was basically a Legend in the BB fraternity and the media . Forcing him out was a PR night mare .
Kareem was also a close friend of Sonny Dove , one of our Iconic players and they would have played together . Sonny as a Senior , Lou as a Soph .
Our Louie did not get involved in the controversy to his credit . He owed his job to Lapchick and very loyal to Joe .

Like me, you are old enough to remember the Boeheim "recruit talent and roll the ball out" era before he discovered the 2-3 Zone. That guy was not a great coach. Very Shaka-esque, actually.

Just trolling you at Maher’s request 😇

I was a student season ticket holder back then. The press and basketball world thought we were nuts not to keep Joe Lapchick. A legendary coach. Respected by all. Perennial winner. In his last season, won both Holiday Festival and NIT in packed MSG. Beat no one Michigan and Cazzie Russell and host of other ranked teams.Joe was a true gentleman as well. A huge mistake.

Marquette has had a tough three game stretch starting w UConn at home Saturday and two road games at SJU and then Creighton

SJU related, I really hope Scott plays better, he seemed a step slow, out of sync Saturday. He is such an energetic, physical player and suspect he could be a little banged up. Hit the jacuzzi Aaron.
