Around College Basketball

….. all these upsets and some fans are crying because we didn’t blow out WVU.
We have no bad losses right now. Villanova already has three. These other schools who have been mentioned here on this thread all have worse losses than us. Some at home. We need to win out the rest of our OOC and finish top 5 in conference play and we’ll be fine.

Agree Gene. So long as we don’t lose to DePaul that would be worse than a loss to Fordham or Hofstra!

This is pure speculation on my part so take it for what it's worth. Does the exclusion of the undefeated Florida State Football team from the college playoffs, hasten the demise of the ACC? If yes, was it intentional?

Seems like ACC football programs would be encouraged to leave the ACC if they have no chance of winning a national championship.

No but FSU is already working hard legally to get out of the ACC so it strengthens their resolve and might get others on the bandwagon. While we will eventually see a different looking ACC, I don’t see it totally imploding like the PAC 12.

If Alabama doesn’t beat Georgia, FSU is probably still in but once Georgia lost to Bama, they were going to take an SEC team which was going to be Bama since they defeated the No. 1 Georgia and you couldn’t take Bama without taking 1 loss Texas who was ranked one spot higher and defeated Bama at Bama. FSU losing their starting QB for the season and their 2nd string QB for the ACC Championship due to a concussion really hurt them as they were horrible on offense.

But it will be interesting to see how this eventually plays out with FSU and others desperately seeking to bolt the ACC and its effects on college football and basketball.

Finishing Top 5 in conference play is a heavy lift for a program that’s in Year 1 of a rebuild. Even with Pitino. Not saying we can’t do it, but it’s a heavy lift.

Exclusion of Florida state was a by product of a terrible football playoff system
that expires next month. suprised it didn’t happen every other year.
next year 12 teams make the NCAA football playoffs, a much much better setup.
An undefeated P5 team will never be excluded again. And likely all 1 loss P5 teams would be in.

if next years system were in place now, Florida St, Georgia & Ohio state would
all have hosted 1st round games vs 10 th, 11th & 12th ranked teams

We need to get Luis back though. As I said on another thread. He has a skill set that we need. If he’s out any longer than what’s been reported we might have an issue.
Hopefully this very talented kid is not injury prone. Last year he was in concussion protocol at UMass and not sure if there were other injuries keeping him out. You can’t generalize things, but rotational planning becomes more difficult in event he is prone to being out periodically.
