Zags- Sampson to NBA?

This story is garbage. The sole purpose is to drum up interest from scared STJ fans. Citing a anonymous "scout" as the source of the headline is comical. Sampson will be an NBA player, but he does not have a position at this point. He can't shoot the three or handle the rock. He hasn't shown that he can guard any perimeter threats. Stories like this do more harm than good.

I am sure Sampson will consult you before he makes his decision.

BTW-You said the same thing when Lenn Robbins wrote in the Post last Spring that Moe had decided to go Pro. You laughed at the story and of course it was 100% true.

You are absolutely wrong. I was the first person on either site to label Harkless as a first round pick.

Before any games were played last season on October 23 of last year I wrote: "With his jumper and versatility Moe looks like a lock for the lottery if he is in fact 6'8.5." http://johnnyjungle.com/forum/index.php?topic=2869.msg85804#msg85804

Nov 2: " I think he stays but this kid has lottery written all over him."

What point are you trying to make? My post with Harkless and Robbins was about how Robbins doesn't use the best sources. He quoted me in an article once from a freaking IM conversation. He offers help to get into law school and dinners to students for inside info. Harkless was a first round pick and Sampson is clearly not at this point. I think Moe could have definitely used a few extra seasons, but I do not believe Sampson is as attractive as Moe was at this point.

All one needs to do is look at the mock draft boards at this point in time this year, compared to last. Mo was already shooting up the first round projections. Jakar and others are not mentioned. If a kid like Jakar, etc, isn't a lock to be a first round pick, I'd like to think that there is no way he leaves.

U nailed it Rob... Sampson would be a complete idiot if he left, even if he was projected to go in the last 10 picks of the 1st round... If this kid continues to work on his jumper and hitting the weights over the summer. IMO, he would be a lottery pick NEXT year. Plus, from what i've been told Jakarr loves living in NYC and college life at SJU... no way he OR harrison goes pro!

He isn't ready...just clearly put. But then again I remember us saying Harkless wasn't either and he went. I guess the difference is that Sampson is so skinny he almost looks malnourished and his shooting form is very odd. Now this isn't saying he's not good for a freshman right now...he is probably going to win Big East ROY but he does have some competition from Arciando whatever...the Nova kid. Sampson needs to put on another 20-30 lbs of muscle, develop a better stroke, and get more experience.

as you all know, the nba drafts based on potential. i believe sampson has a high ceiling as does obekpa. the nba has badly watered down college ball. it wouldn't be absurd to see them leave.

lavin has his work cut out, that's for sure.

I agree, I would not be shocked if either or both left. I don't think they should or will but I would not be shocked.

I think Sampson is a future NBA player, but right now it would be crazy for him to leave. Moe had ideal size and length that NBA teams covet. He also had a clear skillset to play SF. Sampson does't have that. Why take Sampson over a kid like CJ Fair? Sampson is three years away from being able to play big minutes at SF in the NBA. He's frail and he hasn't hit a three all year. He hasn't shown he can defend or create on the perimeter. Moe did both and he was still a little raw for the NBA.

There are a few dozen 6'7 to 6'9 kids that can run and jump in Sampson's neighborhood. Almost all of them have displayed more of an ability to play on the perimeter than Sampson.

Don't disagree. But there are a lot of players with potential. If a kid thinks he can go top 20 I say go but don't gamble with being a borderline first round pick. Look at the guys in the top 20 of most mocks and tell me how Chris even gets considered with that group as an undersized shot blocker. Jakarr may have to think about it a little but even he has more flaws and scout-unfriendly idiosyncrasies than assets. At his size now he is an NBA SF. He hasn't made a 3 all year. That combined with his shooting form makes him undraftable, he needs one or the other to improve drastically. Moe may have only shot 20% from 3 last year but his form was very good making many think that was an aspect of his game that would improve, it hasn't but he's got time. Also many were surprised that Moe's size was legit, is Jakarr's? I don't know the answer to that one. New rule this year is you commit you're out of the college game for good. And you have to do so before camps, combines, whatever. It's going to change the decision making process substantially.
