Zags- Sampson to NBA?

Really, being ready has nothing to do with it. Harkless got 1st round money and made a good decision but he is getting 18 minutes a game with a 14-31 team with OK stats so I am not sure from a basketball point of view he was "ready." So if Sampson is confident he will go first round I am sure he will jump; just the way it is.

Although I do think Jakaar's game is fairly comparable to Mo's I think that Jakaar is missing one key ingredient that really got people talking about Mo and that is a hallmark or signature game. Mo started getting real attention after the 32 point Providence game but his name really took off after he dropped 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against a top ten ranked Duke team. I think Jakaar is a great player but I don't think he has had that moment that suddenly makes people stop and really look hard at him. Just my 2 cents (which is probably overvalued by a penny or two)

But that is a direct result of the depth of this year's roster compared to last year, imo. While Harless was a smoother offensive player, I think Sampson would have had a 30 point game this year if we only had 6 guys suiting up. Conversely, Harkless would have had to blend in a lot more this year because of the extra talent.

I also think it is fair to say Harkless would have had less "signature games" but he would be more well rounded player. Not to mention, the team would be in the top 25 and he would be sharing the accolades.

Make no mistake, I am not being critical of Harkless. I really like the kid. He turned away from screwconn and beacme Lavin's linchpin recruit. Without him, who knows about the rest of the class. I am just trying to make a point about Harkless and Sampson.

Looks like his minutes have gone up lately ranging from 30-43mpg. Nice game against the Bucks with a 19/14. Think Big Baby busted a foot..

He's gotten good luck in terms of some injuries. First Hedo, then Big Baby. Not Baby again I think.

Some of you act like these clown reporters have an obligation to SJU.

Funny how when Norm was the coach people on this baord would get mad because local reporters weren't tearing Norm a new one every day.

I can assure you of one thing, JaKarr will not turn pro because of what some anonymous scout told Zags. If it ever comes to that, and I don't think it will, JaKarr will do what Moe did last season and consult with multiple NBA people, Lavin, his family and get a good read on where he may land before he makes his ultimate decision.

I don't doubt your points at all, BUT that is one reason Harkless got so much attention was those games where he broke out and took over. I too would have loved another year of Mo.

This story is garbage. The sole purpose is to drum up interest from scared STJ fans. Citing a anonymous "scout" as the source of the headline is comical. Sampson will be an NBA player, but he does not have a position at this point. He can't shoot the three or handle the rock. He hasn't shown that he can guard any perimeter threats. Stories like this do more harm than good.

Time for a little tale of the tape. Apologies to my BFF for stealing his trademark. Pretty pretty pretty close

FG%- 45% vs. 45%

3PM- 0.0 vs. .5
3PA- .2 vs. 2.5
3P%- 0% vs. 20%

FTM- 3.0 vs. 3.0
FTA- 4.8 vs. 4.4
FT%- 62% vs. 68%

Statistics don't lie. Same player right. NBA drafts on potential of which their is a ton. It's up to Lavin et al to convince Jakarr that he's better off
in the pro's or school. Wonder how it will play out?

I am sure Sampson will consult you before he makes his decision.

BTW-You said the same thing when Lenn Robbins wrote in the Post last Spring that Moe had decided to go Pro. You laughed at the story and of course it was 100% true.

How do you remember these things?
I don't remember what I did last Tuesday :)

People, let's just enjoy this year and hope this team continues to finish out the season in a big way. There will be plenty of time to talk about this kind of stuff in April and May.

For now, Jakarr is a part of this team and playing great basketball. Let's leave it at that.

You usually say the same about me. LOL

Guess what? I didn't even remember what fordham recently posted. I'm slippin'.

Looks like someone's been here reading up on the posts.

Anyone who thinks a kid turns pro based solely on an article is a moron plain and simple.2 NBA scouts were quoted, &kids consult w/ coaches

I think that tweet was a response to the guy who tweeted him from Draft Express, not this thread.
