Zags- Sampson to NBA?

Here we go again. I understand that this is a sign of the program improving, but I don’t have to like it. This is the first I’ve seen of Sampson even being considered for 1st round in 2013, but this is how it started with Harkless last season. Unlike Harkless, I think that this kid will probably stay because I think there is too great of a chance that he would go in the 2nd round (if not probable), but once the chatter starts its hard for Sampson not to think about it.

I know some people disagree with me on this, and I think we all would agree he could use another season at SJU, but if he projects (from reliable 3rd party sources) that he will be a mid-first round selection, he's got to take the $$.

It goes without saying that Jermaine made a HUGE mistake in selecting $incy! Were it not for a POS intermediary, he would have been a Johnny next year and played mucho minutes. Let's see if he cracks the starting lineup in lovely downtown Cinncinatti.

I don't believe one word of this article.

I think this article is just more sour grapes from Zags for Lawrence spurning SJU for Cincy.

Check every single mock draft on the net and Jakarr is not mentioned. But Zags has some "NBA scout insider" that projects Jakarr as a mid first round pick? Nah. Complete lie.

I really wish someone from SJU approaches Zags and tells him that he does not represent SJU in any way and just back off. He's doing a disservice to the school and Jakarr by putting this out there.

I'm tired of him and his 'journalism'. This article has no merit and doesn't even add up. Sickening.

It's good for the program in a long-term sense, but we're not at the stage where we can continue to lose kids after their freshmen campaign. It would be a huge blow, if Sampson were to leave. IMO, it could very, well set us back.

I'm one who certainly believes he benefits to come back for another season. He'll be a bit stronger, and can work on his shot from behind the arc. Hopefully, he does what a kid like Otto Porter done.... Porter could've left after last season, and probably would've been a late first-round (or early second-round) draft pick. He made the decision to come back, and is now a bonafide top 15 draft pick in 2013.

Hopefully, Sampson does the same.

I don't believe a word of the article and I'm surprised some are eating this up.

We've had NBA scouts and execs at Carnesseca for the Detroit home opener, the first GTown game at MSG and I'm sure a few other games.

Never have you heard Jakarr's name mentioned. Never. He's not on one 2013 NBA mock draft. But some NBA scout has him going mid-first? Please.

If he wants to cover SJU, fine. But don't put garbage like this out there or angle stories in our favor or cut down recruits who chose other schools. This reflects poorly on us and as an alum, I'm sick and tired of it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but NBADraft.net a site many people swear by is a site run by fans. Not NBA scouts. Everyone loves to rip on Zags he's a reporter, he has connections. I don't think he's lying in what an NBA scout told him. Just because one scout likes him doesn't mean the other 29 team scouts do. Thats why certain people are picked places that make people scratch their head.

Let's see, Sampson needs to refine his game. He needs to work on his outside game, and learn to pass and improve his handle. That quote could be cut and pasted to many talented freshmen, who are not ready to go pro.

I think more credence is given to NBA Draft Express, guys who actually go and scout high school, college and international prospects.

Clearly Zags angles stories pro-SJU. I just feel it's bad info and I don't find it credible.

And what he did in the aftermath of JL's verbal was pretty disgusting. Pretty sure he would not have said anything if he verballed to us. Which makes it clear that the timing of this Jakarr story is even more bogus to me.

Funny you think his stories are pro SJU when most posters here hate him.

I believe he said on Twitter he would have said same things about the handler regardless of the school he picked. And mentioned his close relationship with Cronin and Savino specifically.

* Draft Express is out there. But do they have the ties in terms of where they fall in the draft based on team interest not just ranking them based on where they 'think' they should go. Also wasn't Draft Express the ones who tweeted last year that Kevin Jones had guarantee from team in the 1st round.

He wouldn't dare burn a bridge by calling her out for what would have been Lavin's highest SJU recruit. He may be crazy but he's not stupid. You think he'd call Nate out? Why didn't he call out Obekpa's shady handlers?

DraftEx's mocks aren't based on team need but you would think a 'mid-first' prospect like Jakarr would be somewhere in the vicinity of their mock or their player rankings.

Funny, I thought it was Zags who said KJ had a guarantee. Didn't stop Zags from tweeting a pic of KJ sitting by himself in the stands on draft night.

Like I've said you pick spots with handlers. He didn't want to play her game. This is her first foray and there is no sign she has anyone else in the pipeline. With Nate there is track record and Obekpa is more OSNA and they are pumping out players. I'd placate to the right people. If you choose not to believe he would have said the same had he picked STJ thats your prerogative. Your entitled to that. He put it out there he would. I'll take his word on that.

I'm pretty sure it was Draft Express. I could be wrong. Did Zags retweet it or just regurgitate it? Yes probably.

Moose is correct, in reference to Zags and his connections. Zags has lots of, if not usually good, sources.

Pretty much how I view it, as well.
 
Although I do think Jakaar's game is fairly comparable to Mo's I think that Jakaar is missing one key ingredient that really got people talking about Mo and that is a hallmark or signature game. Mo started getting real attention after the 32 point Providence game but his name really took off after he dropped 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against a top ten ranked Duke team. I think Jakaar is a great player but I don't think he has had that moment that suddenly makes people stop and really look hard at him. Just my 2 cents (which is probably overvalued by a penny or two)
