Zags: Help is on the way for St. John's

Can't wait to see AG on the court for SJU. If we can win the next three games and than add him to our line-up. We could be sitting at 8-4(1-0) heading in to our New Years Eve tilt with Ucon. :woohoo: ... of course this is all speculation at this point. First things first, we need to get our HEAD COACH back. Once that happens, IMHO, this bunch will start to turn the corner.

Memo to Mr. Lindsey : SHOOT THE DAMN BALL...... If u don't get 10 to 15 a night we are in trouble.

Just remember, building a franchise is a process. You can't recruit a better class than this one without starting with the calber of players Lavin just brought in. He started the recruiting process while fielding a team that didn't make it out of the firsts round of the NIT in 2009-1010. While this team may not even be NIT bound, the talent level is already much higher than the team that made it to Denver last season.

Unlike most of you, whose knowledge I appreciate a lot, I don't hang on potential recruits. For some reason, I can't get excited until they commit and then arrive here. For now, I'm just enjoying the ride, and trying to figure out who in this year's group might emerge as bonafide top Big East players. It's almost funny, since over this inital part of this season each of our new players both praised and trashed.

One thing that is undeniable, is that if you attend games, the buzz is back, and season ticket holders and students have been showing up with interest for the early games.

We are a scary, petulant group of babies, masking as knowlegable fans.

Very, much so. Not to mention, some of the folks who're whining were some of the same people who spoke about the team was gonna have a long season prior to the beginning of the season. Go figure.

This is a shorthanded group of first year players. The struggles were not unexpected. Yet some are acting like the program is near armageddon. If you heard Lavin interviewed yesterday (I am paraphrasing), he said this group, and another class next year will be the foundation of the program going forward.

Maybe people should just shut their eyes and hybernate until next year.

Hopefully, Lavin makes good on his word by garnering valuable and significant commitments, and we could very well have a top 15 product on the floor a season from now.

I am confident Lavin brings a top 10 class next year. Gathers coming for the CvC and then going out and bonding with the current players is very good news. Lavin spent a lot of time recruiting Sampson a couple of weeks ago, so he isn't giving up on him. Landing those two, another top kid who may decommit, or an all-American JUCO would not be surprising at all.

Kentucky was too much for us not even because of Jones and Davis, but Miller moreso IMO. You can't account for all of that size and athletic talent...that third kid broke our backs. We will be that type of team in two years...ball comes off the rim and teams lock up most of the players but a Garret, Pointer, Harkless, Sampson/Gathers gets free and it's a b
Volleyball game that leads to a putback or an open three for Harrison or Greene.

Our guys are freshman but we return every single minute played next year...when that happens the change in overall success is usually exponential. I think Harrison is right were he should be...he is such a high volume shooter that he won't be a kid that shoots 45% but I do expect him to finish around 35% this year (amazing for a high volume freshman shooter) and see those #s climb the next few years.

Overall, I am pleased with what I see. These are freshman with no size or depth on the roster...they can't even run a 5 on 5 scrimmage with 10 d1 caliber athletes in practice and you can't understand what a hinderince that is.

I really think Moe, Greene, and Harrison are all studs that will all be incredible...Dom as well.

I love the freshmen also.
Harrison has some Kevin Williams in him, one of my all time favorite Redmen.
In Pointer, I see Postell.
As others have mentioned, Harkless/Sealy is a good analogy.
In Greene, I see a smaller Ben Gordon.

I read somewhere that Harrison shot 34% from 3 as a HS senior. Not stellar. Should his numbers improve playing in the big leagues? Not likely. So why should anyone believe he was the second coming of Kyle Korver?
However, coach said he was one of the three best shooters he ever coached.  So there is still hope. Plus, as one poster said, he didn't get a decent look from 3 all game. What I do like is that he plays hard and with a lot of passion. If he turns out to be as good as Hardy was as a senior, that will be good enough.

He got one wide-open look late in the second half and he nailed it.

I too like these new guys and do not expect wonders from them. I was not even expecting an NCAA bid even when we thought we had 3 other players on board.

But, it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt to watch us get our butts handed to us,. I loved the effort in the Arizona game and I walked away from a loss with a big smile. That was a good game. But if they play like they did the past few games, we are going to have most of the BE dominate us each night, and that is NOT how you stat a foundation.

I have full confidence that this staff will have these boys ready for BE play and there will be great efforts each night. I also know there will be many ups and downs, probably more downs.

So I guess we wait and see which team shows up for conference play...the one that played Arizona or the one that played Northeastern. I am pretty sure we suited up the same kids for both games.
