Zags: Help is on the way for St. John's

Very disappointed in harrisson he was touted as a great shooter If he hit 1/2 of his 3s thats a 15 pt swing if green hit 3 more of his thats another 9 if lindsey gave us 10 pt other than1 thats another 9 Thats 31 pts different game

Man, can you give the kid a break. He is 8 !@#$% games into his college career. You probably said Bootsy sucked after his first 10 games too, which were very mediocore.

Are you one of those Yankees fans that complains when they don't win a World Series every year?

We are a scary, petulant group of babies, masking as knowlegable fans.

This is a shorthanded group of first year players. The struggles were not unexpected. Yet some are acting like the program is near armageddon. If you heard Lavin interviewed yesterday (I am paraphrasing), he said this group, and another class next year will be the foundation of the program going forward.

Maybe people should just shut their eyes and hybernate until next year.

You are so on the money; in both basketball and comedy.

Amir will help and I'm thrilled he's coming, but our biggest weakness is size and shooting. I'm not sure he can cure either. He's a capable rebounder because he's a great athlete, so he could help there. He's quick and long, so he should also play well in our zone.

But it all comes back to shooting and size to me.

I agree. Watched him play in several games last year. Hung around the basket, got feeds from the guards and did some rebounding. Didn't take too many outside shots, scored inside on layups and offensive rebounds.

Jack thats what this team needs.

Biggest problems are fundamental so far, bad free throw shooting and not boxing out and going after rebounds.

I agree and I think that Harrison is a better shooter than some people on this board give him credit for. He's only 8 games into his College career. He was shooting something like 40% from 3 before last nights game. He has a nice shot. Also, look at Jeremy Lamb of UCONN last year. He really didn't start to assert himself until the mid point in the season. The difference is that Lamb had Kemba Walker to ease his transition.

He said the 6 new players from this year and the 6 new players next year will be the foundation of the program.

If you add Stith and White there would be 14 scholarships next year.

Very, much so. Not to mention, some of the folks who're whining were some of the same people who spoke about the team was gonna have a long season prior to the beginning of the season. Go figure.

Hopefully, Lavin makes good on his word by garnering valuable and significant commitments, and we could very well have a top 15 product on the floor a season from now.
MJ, should we and could we expect at some point during the season our guys will be able to run plays that allow them to get off an ok shot?

They do run plays that allow them to get off shots. There are times when they aren't executing and fumbling around with the ball. They also need to be more consistent snapping their passes.

White's scholarship will be taken away if need be. Plus he could mean Amir as one of the 6 'new' players

I read somewhere that Harrison shot 34% from 3 as a HS senior. Not stellar. Should his numbers improve playing in the big leagues? Not likely. So why should anyone believe he was the second coming of Kyle Korver?
However, coach said he was one of the three best shooters he ever coached.  So there is still hope. Plus, as one poster said, he didn't get a decent look from 3 all game. What I do like is that he plays hard and with a lot of passion. If he turns out to be as good as Hardy was as a senior, that will be good enough.

I am confident Lavin brings a top 10 class next year. Gathers coming for the CvC and then going out and bonding with the current players is very good news. Lavin spent a lot of time recruiting Sampson a couple of weeks ago, so he isn't giving up on him. Landing those two, another top kid who may decommit, or an all-American JUCO would not be surprising at all.

You're confident we're bringing in a top 10 recruiting class next year? Outside of Gathers and maybe Obekpa where are they coming from?

I think we should be very happy if we can land two out of Gathers, Obekpa, and Sampson. But two of them and Wood don't give us a top 10 class.

Average NCAA Division I Overall 3-Point Percentage for the past three seasons has been 34%

Also its been said that he was the only player on his team and therefore double and triple teamed.

It says JR Tom. He might be a Sr. in terms of academics but he gets another year to play if he so chooses. If he wants to stick around next year he can walk on.

Agree, just pointing out he should graduate in May.

As I just posted elsewhere, if we hit a couple of more shots and had even one Bill Wennington type, the game would have been a manageable loss.

Keeping perspective and not checking out this site regularly, this post is so exciting in so many ways. We're involved; top recruits are possibilities; winning will come and in the meanwhile we are seeing talented kids playing their hardest. The Dark Ages have passed.

We've got - I realize this is not hot-off-the-press "news" - a great staffthat can match any imho.

all the best and I appreciate all the updates and input

in regard to the above bantering about how the team is and is not doing, what recruits are coming or not...

Impatience on the supermarket line, the L.I.E., the kids growing up, the mortgage being paid, the Red Storm getting it together, the dog stop crapping on the lawn…speaking of dogs, Pavlov spoke near the end of his life words of wisdom that apply to Coach Lavin's progressive buildup of the sleeping giant:

the keys to success are PASSION AND GRADUALISM

it's okay staying thirsty but give it time until "the time has come today" (Chambers Brothers I believe)

all the best

Kranmars-I agree with you-Hardy didn't play well his junior and the first few games of his senior year and look what he became-this team can't run full court scrimmages because of not enough players-It's disappointing but not unexpected

"when I walk down the street, get to the other side"
"when you walk down the street, there ain't no other side"

And when these kids return the arse kicking in kind to thier opponents starting next year, I will do the Hucklebuck!

I feel like we have been waiting for this forever. Speaking of which, don't invite me to the 'cuse game this year ;) . I am still hearing about last year's game from my brother-in-law and nephew.
