Zach B Lavin Rip

Job well done by Zach.

The public floggings of Lavin will just get worse and they are very deserving. 2013 and 14 are the worst recruiting classes in SJU history even w Sampson 15 still needs a tonight of work too.

The article is 100% truthful and on point.

I love the Lavin apologists trying to argue w Zach on Twitter. Get lost!!!

You may be right about '14, but Rysheed was the '13 class (clearly not the worst ever).

I understand that. It's one player though who has shown a lot of promise in year one but in year two has not played up to expectations and has actually been a detriment to the team with his circus act side show.

There's a reason we only play six guys - because the 13 & 14 classes were a horror show

We'll disagree on this point then. I think it's ludicrous to call that class a horror when we filled one open scholarship with a top 20 player. And, Jordan has helped us a lot more than he's hurt us during his time here. Not to mention, that he still has time left in his St. John's career, before we brand him as a detriment.

Reads like a post straight off the pages of Redmen.com. Wonder how long before some label Zach just another "Lavin hater"?

About ten minutes.

When you guys stop referring to those of us who are not comfortable with starting all over again as "Lavin apologists."

See the post right above this one.

I don't use labels, but IMO probably about the same time that the term "Lavin hater" stops being used. I don't believe that any true fan of the program is a "Lavin hater". I've been one of his more vocal critics from the day he was hired, but no one wants him to succeed more than me. I still do, unfortunately to many things have happened to make feel that he can right this ship. And I'm not talking about this year, I'm talking about moving forward.

Some dude on twitter told zach b not to fault Lavin for not getting IW because he wouldn't hire tiny. And zach b said this.

@NYPost_Brazille: @drewsvu @NotoriousNJV that I disagree with he was lost in summer they had stopped recruiting him

That's probably when Tiny called.

To my foggy recollection that's true but then at the end we had him and then Tiny pulled the hire me card at literally the last second. I remember a poster who gets great info had said the night before he was ours and then the next day Tiny pulled the hire me card.

Besides Willard hiring Tiny is the evidence that you had to hire him to get IW

Other than that I think ZB's article was pretty much just facts and well written

Agreed.

Other things left out for me though is no mention of guys going pro early and cancer year which in all fairness impacted our recruiting and could be 1 of the reasons why our roster is so imbalanced this year. Didn't Gathers admit that he decommited partially due to Lavin's cancer?

http://zagsblog.com/st-johns/gathers-decommits-from-st-johns/

Recruiting aside, we had plenty of talent to win last year and we didn't. We started 11-1 this year and again have enough talent to win. Losing to Seton Hall and Butler was unacceptable! We have 10 guys we can play but coach has decided to only use 6. That's on him. As is this year if we don't make the tourney again.

CTK Coach after someone saying that NYC HS coaches should be at fault for Lavin's lack of recruiting too.

"@ctkcoachjarbs: @johnniefan105 @DalyDoseOfHoops @NYPost_Brazille they have offered 1 kid and he went to sju. They haven't offered anyone else."

So we haven't offered Rawle Alkins yet? How could we not offer him?

Revisionist history. Lavin used the year off due to health reasons to strictly concentrate on recruiting, came in with the CO class his second best class. Some other coaches were even complaining that Lavin had an unfair recruiting advantage.

Hard to criticize Lavin for not playing guys because we don't know what he sees in practice. Yhat's especially true when they, in fact, give us nothing when they do see the floor. Much easier to criticize him for bringing in players that aren't able to contribute. U fortunately, I believe Keith Thomas is the missing piece that would have made this team much stronger.

And if my mother had balls, she'd be my father

I believe it was Austour who astutely pointed out a while back when this phrase was used that if your mom had balls, you wouldn't be here. Better to use aunt/uncle.

Artibello responded by saying Lavin said that he doesn't extend offers to high schools Juniors.

The disdain these local coaches have for Lavin is just brutal.

the "stopped recruiting him" may have been Whitehead's perception if he had not heard from Lav or his "hardworking" staff with the regularity he had heard from other staffs.

My comment is related to a comment which Chris McCullough made to a friend during his junior to senior high school summer. My friend asked McCullough where he stood with StJohns and McCullough responded that he hadn't heard from StJohns during the past several months. Thereafter McCullough committed to the University of Syracuse.

IMO if StJohns had a strong Athletic Director he would have convinced Lav after last season that he needed to shake up his staff and hire a hardworking staff.

1. Lavin himself said he stopped recruiting IW. Said he didn't want the negative perception that would come if he missed out on a local kid. Cuse also backed off of IW.

2. McCullough attended a SJU practice days before he verballed to Cuse. So there is no way he hadn't heard from SJU for several months unless he had the keys to unlock Carnesecca to attend a practice and tweet pics of himself there.

Chris, who would you have thrown off the team to create more open ships to give for 2013? If Amir hadn't transferred there would have been no rides to give.

Is there a valid reason he doesn't offer juniors? Also, I feel like he has offered some juniors before. Maybe this is why he always gets late commitments and doesn't get many in the fall. All players are too far in their process already.

Fwiw, this year he offered Gibbs, Salnave, Ponds & Wilson, three juniors and a soph.

I don't know if Lavin said that or not, but we definitely have offered Juniors. Maybe he meant that we don't offer before their Jr. year but it would be ludicrous to wait until a kid is a Sr. to extend an offer.
