Expected. No way were they going to bring him North nor should they at this time. Let's see what he does in Double A and then hopefully some Triple A this year and then who knows.

Trading Hicks is not an option unfortunately as no one wants him. I see a release in his future before then if he doesn't at least resemble a serviceable major leaguer.

Donaldson can at least field his position. Neither of them will be released prior to opening day.

The narrative some people are spewing about their being a problem with the need to have to add Volpe, Calhoun or any other non-roster player to the 40-man roster is a lot of wasted air over nothing. Effross is out for the year with TJ surgery and Montas is out for at least most of the season so both immediately go on the 60 Day IL the first day that you are allowed to put them on it. That frees up two spots on the 40-man as anyone on the 60 Day DL does not count against the 40-man roster. Gil is recovering from surgery (TJ?) and probably won't be ready before June/July at the earliest, so that is another 60 Day candidate. Kahnle with his recent setback might not be ready before June (speculating here) so there is another candidate. Yes, it is kicking the can down the road, but that is what you do in these cases.
