Might as well start a new thread for the 2020 season.

What's your projection for wins for next year?
105?

I thought about starting a new thread, but it was too late early this morning. Thanks.

Nice Yogi-ism

The surest thing for Yankees in 2020 is that ticket prices will go up significantly to pay Cole. A lot of bucks and a lot of years for someone who is 29, especially a pitcher.

They really shouldn't go up just because of the Cole signing. They may go up anyway, they usually do, but if they trade Happ (17m) and they win the case for terminating Ellsbury's (26m) contract they are clearing $43m in cap space and adding Cole at $36M.

It'll be highly unlikely they win the Elsbury dispute. I think the better way to look at it is:
Happ: if they can lose most of that contract = $17mm; they have to trade away some prospects to make that happen. That's fine.
Gregorious: Already lost him: 11.75mm
Betances: Probalby will lose him $7.5mm
Gardner: He made $7.5mm last year maybe they resign him for slightly less / or they let him go and they roll the dice with Tauchman for a few months. If the budget is the big issue; i would probably let Gardner go, and re-sign a a different reliever.

That's $43mm right there. So they basically will have to choose between re-signing Gardner or signing another half-decent reliever, if only considering these players in a vacuum.

If they don't want to completely blow the budget, they'll have to continue to get production with some guys making minimal salaries, like Tauchman / perhaps bringing up a minor league guy for the bullpen.

So much for Gardner getting paid less to make budget:

The Post’s George A. King III and Joel Sherman report. Gardner is guaranteed $12.5 million as he’ll earn $10 million in 2019, and his 2021 option worth $10 million has a $2.5 million buyout.

Gardner, 36, slashed .251/.325/.503 and set career-highs in 2019 with 28 home runs and 74 RBIs in 141 games. He made 94 starts in center field last season.

Has to mean 10 mill in 2020 not 2019 which is over also no mention of the 2021 contract amount that the 2.5 mill buyout applies too.

It applies to $10 m for 2021. He is guaranteed $10 m for 2020 and will either be bought out for $2.5 in 2021 or get another $10 m.

Really wish they would go get a pure hitter someone who will get on base consistently we have enough power. Like a scooter gennett but I don't those guys are available thru trade or any are free agents but we'll see.

Looking for a big year from Cole (#45). I'm expecting October fun.

Couldn't be happier with the Cole acquisition. Been waiting for him to put on pinstripes since they drafted him out of HS.

With all due respect to CC Sabathaia and Andy Pettitte, we haven't had an elite power pitcher at the apex of his career stuff-wise since Ron Guidry. Next 5-10 years are going to be a lot of fun!

Clemens was pretty good.

Yeah, but he was 36 when he got here. We got the Clemens 2.0 version. Still really good but not what he was in Toronto or Boston.

Here we go again with the damn injuries. Paxton on the shelf 3-4 months for back surgery. Ugh!
