Yakwe Transferring

As I saw Paultz say once, Yakwe could be a pretty significant player for a team in the MAAC or NEC or something along those lines. But hey if he wants to keep playing the highest competition level, good luck to him, i wish him the best

As @AdamZagoria reported, St Johns transfer Kassoum Yakwe will visit UConn this weekend. Pittsburgh, Nevada, Ohio State all involved, I’m told. #sjubb[/quote]

What are these teams seeing in him that we haven't seen for two seasons?

Nevada would probably be a great spot for him if he doesn't want to go the low and low/mid major route.

His adviser always has kids in pipeline & suspect often some schools get listed as a favor or poetic license. :) Of course UConn is legitimately interested as they rebuild, which will be quick imo.

New UConn commit Tarin Smith on Kassoum Yakwe: "Yeah, yeah, we've been working on him all weekend but he didn't commit yet."
per Zagoria

Btw, Hurley landed two guards today including transfer Smith who played at St Anthony’s for his father,

Yakwe's biggest problem this year seemed to be loss of confidence. Gut feel is change of scenery will be good for him and I could see him being a contributor for UConn if he goes there. While I hope UConn continues to struggle, would like to see Yakwe have a good senior year - from all appearances, a quality kid.

Agree. Although, if Yakwe has a strong year, it's an indictment on our staff.

JohnnyFan - I hear you, but sometimes a change of scenery is just what the doctor ordered. In a perfect world, Yakwe and SJU both have good years in 2018-2019 so no one will be looking to assign blame!

I liked him and he was a good person and I also wish him well. I think the staff gave up on him and did not develop his skills. Plus I think they lost all faith in him when he committed that foul at Georgetown that eventually led to a big comeback by the Hoyas and a loss in a game we seemingly had won

Many do not believe in blaming one play for losing a game. There are hundreds of things everyone could have done a little better to win a game.

I think the worst thing the staff did was to tell him.to commit a 3 shot foul vs. Georgetown. Boeheim always gives a 2 shot foul when up by 3 and seconds left. Guess telling him to foul was a bad idea

I wish him the best of luck but it's going to be hard to root for him since he will be playing for a program i detest....

I think he should have gone a level lower - MAAC or America East. I doubt he'll be a significant contributor at UConn.

Practically their whole team is being revamped, he'll have plenty of opportunity to prove himself and Hurley is going to be pushing him.

This is 100% spot on. Yakwe will have a tremendous amount of playing time. Look at Antoine Anderson who transferred there from Fordham last year. He was an okay A-10 player but received a tremendous amount of pt this past year. Wise choice for Yakwe to get some exposure if you ask me. (Not that he is an NBA player at all, but perhaps for other leagues).

Yakwe read the tea leaves here with maximum pine time last season. Why not stay relatively local, play for a good coach and roll the dice at high D1 level? No worse than staying here where he was not getting PT.

Honestly I would wish him well anywhere but yukon. I hope that I am not the only one that gets a little nauseous seeing this.

Extraordinarily nauseous. I would have preferred to see him in anything but that uniform. Anything. Ugh.

I don’t know why, but I saw this coming. I think he will be a solid contributor.
