Yakwe & Bright SJU Future

My only concern about Yakwe is that we are not going to have him for 4 years. His upside is tremendous--he has already shown incredible progress-- and combined with everything you hear about his fine attitude, he must be high on the radar of the NBA scouts.

But I guess this is what you would call a "high class problem." I'll take it.

Who knows, but not too many NBA teams draft 6'7 power forwards. Can he develop wing skills is the question IMO.

Put on some bulk and extend the range a bit and Yakwe has precedence

Fair enough. I thought he was 6'9. He plays like it.

I really like the kid but we are now getting into the carried away zone. 6-6 kid that hasn't learned to shoot yet. I think our gates are safe from the NBA marauders for another couple years at least.

What do you expect? He's already been compared to Walter Berry.

In fairness the last poster to use that comparison only goes back to the "glory days" of Geno.

We are a funny fan base though. Guys either "aren't BE talent and should transfer" or are so good "they are going to leave early for draft".

Extend the range a bit is the understatement of the century. I will say that Yakwe's motor is close to Draymond's ridiculous standards already. I don't see how he doesn't last 4 years on campus though.

I would say beyond a doubt if he can extend his range to that of Curry, he'll be a good NBA player.

Yep, the minute we get a commitment from someone of consequence. I anticipate hearing, "yeah, but how long will he be here" lol. I guess SJU fans have been battered for so long even good news must be picked apart. If we get a good player, why not just enjoy him for whatever period he may be here?

At some level, the better they are the shorter period of time they will be here. If we want the very best players, we should expect that and not lament.

If directed towards me, who sort of started this thing, I wasnt comparing the two, rather asking for opinions of those who saw Berry as two how they could compare.

Really seems like Yakwe has worked on his game all season. His free throw shooting is much better. Even the misses look better and like they have a chance to go in. He is really quick, and gets ff the ground quick and high. I would love to see him learn to be effective with a face up 2 dribble pull up and on his handle. He is so quick, and can elevate that if he could hit the pull up on a regular basis from the baseline/wing he would be unstoppable because if another 4 tried to play him tight he could blow right by him for a dunk.

Take notice when he shoots at a higher trajectory he hits the back of rim but when he shoots his foul shot at a lower trajectory it is much softer.
