First year they were decent was 1988 when they made a run to win the NIT. Made the dance for first time under Calhoun in 1990 and had multiple NCAA appearances in 1990s leading up to first national title in 1999. But they were not very good in 1980s.
I remember going to a game in 1988 at Alumni Hall where we lost to UCONN. They had Cliff Robinson and Tate George. Up to that point UCONN wasn't very good. I felt a shift after that game.

I wish I thought the same. I see us is the second tier and not necessarily at the top.
lf we have not played the bottom two yet and ricks teams get better in the second half of the season especially this year, why shouldn't we get better?

I don’t understand the relevance. I think we can beat the bottom teams and win more than we lose against similar teams.

I don’t know if we can beat a really good team. It will come down to smoke and mirrors if we do…or a fantastic match up. This is why this game is so big in my opinion.

If the refs don't give them all the calls and we play 40 minutes of real tough defense that we'll not only play with anyone but also BEATTTTTTTT any damn school in the country.

It's about going blow for blow with the best, you stand your ground and never back up an inch. Have the mentality that this is our turf, and no one come on our turf and shits on us.

It's gonna be a war.

I’m way more bullish on this team. We’ve come up on the wrong side of some closely contested games against great teams. We learn from them and continue to improve. I fully believe that by March we will be able to beat anyone. Need Alleyne healthy though for any of this to be true cause we desperately need perimeter defense help

It was some point in on the 90's when we lost UConn at home.

Not all of it. I remember when they had a starting lineup of Karl Hobbs, Vern Giscomb, Mike McKay , Corny Thompson and Chuck Aleksinas at center. I think it was late 70’s early 80’s but those guys weren’t bad.
That team was ranked. Corny Thompson was the best HS player in New England and Aleksinas was a transfer from Kentucky if my memory serves me.

UConn never beat us at Alumni Hall. Tate did force OT but we ended up winning the game.

You are correct. We lost our first home game to UConn in Jan 1994 at MSG.

As far as the game tomorrow is concerned. I think it will be a tough game with Xavier getting blown out last game. But, I like that we’ve had a week off to heal. I like that Pitino has had a week to prepare for this game especially since we’ve already played them once. Also, Luis didn’t play in the first game against Xavier.

My error. It felt like we lost that game.

I hope you guys are right.
