We would still have the Big East Tournament also to garner a win or two versus a ranked opponent

Did UConn even have fans back then? Assume it was in the Dom Perno era which was pretty miserable for them most of the time.

First year they were decent was 1988 when they made a run to win the NIT. Made the dance for first time under Calhoun in 1990 and had multiple NCAA appearances in 1990s leading up to first national title in 1999. But they were not very good in 1980s.

2011 we had these ranked wins, let's show them what we got and get some ranked wins:

St. John's Upsets No. 4 Pitt 60-59​


NEW YORK (AP) Dwight Hardy's underhanded flip with 1.2 seconds to play gave St. John's a 60-59 victory over No. 4 Pittsburgh on Saturday, the Red Storm's fifth win over a highly ranked team this season.

Hardy, who finished with 19 points, started his drive near midcourt, went past one defender on the right side of the court only to find another one there. He went to the baseline and underhanded the ball up and over the rim to give the Red Storm (17-9, 9-5 Big East) another highly ranked victim in Madison Square Garden.

St. John's beat then-No. 13 Georgetown, No. 9 Notre Dame, No. 3 Duke and No. 10 Connecticut

No, they weren't and a lot of fans felt that they could not compete in the Big East and should return to the Yankee conference and the traditional rivalries.
 
This game is huge. I'd argue that this game, @Butler, and Seton Hall are our biggest games remaining since they are basically 50/50 games. Creighton, Uconn, and @ Marquette are unlikely wins and we truthfully don't need them if we beat SH and one of Butler and Xavier on the road.

That is, of course, assuming we win 3/4 against Georgetown and DePaul. With Pitino, I have faith we take care of the lesser teams. I don't know if we have the talent to beat the top 3, but even last year's squad beat Uconn on the road. We'd have to be on, they'd have to be off, and a lot of things would have to go our way.

Is there any notable data not included in the NET?​

Game date and game order were not included in the NET rankings so a team's first game counts the same as its 30th.

With the changes announced in May 2020, the NET will no longer use winning percentage, adjusted winning percentage and scoring margin. The change was made after the committee consulted with Google Cloud Professional Services, which worked with the NCAA to develop the original NET.

Not directly, but it clearly has heavily impacted rankings indirectly.
