Xavier has a multitude of bigs Soriano will have to contend with. He’s gonna need help down low.Starting Stanley and moving Jones to the 3 may be necessary. But my biggest concern is the coach. Coach Miller is pretty savvy and like him or not a great coach. I don’t know if Anderson will up for the task.

In our only two “real games” to date, the Posh Curbelo experiment did not work, let’s hope a change is coming. Also hoping our home court gives the team a shot to win.

I don't mean to be a doctor of gloom, but I don't like our chances here
Xavier is a talented and underrated team that is well coached
This is going to be a tough game for us to win, even in our building
They beat Xavier Twice last year. Come off the ledge. Saint John’s team will compete well and it will be close.

Last night's game was a tough watch for many reasons. Unlike what many of us feared, we didn't lose it because of the three ball (Nova only took 19 versus their average of 26 and only made 6) but because of horrible offensive execution and lack of toughness underneath imho.
My take on our team to date is both Curbelo & Jones take too many quick/bad shots (especially last night), Posh is going through a very tough time confidence wise, Soriano & Mathis are mostly fine and both Storr & Stanley need more minutes.
Not suggesting this as a long term change but do think coach needs to both change things up and send a message. With that in mind, I'd like to see a starting lineup against Xavier of Soriano, Stanley, Storr, Mathis & Posh. Bring Curbelo & Jones off the bench for this game, let them watch and see how Posh runs the team. Just a thought from a frustrated fan, others on here much better qualified to judge.

1. I'm not on the ledge. I never said we can't compete or win this game. I just said that it will be a tough game for us
2. With huge roster turnover every year, what happened last year means absolutely nothing now
3. I am rooting for St John's to win, as I have done for close to 60 years

It’s too drastic a move for a college coach to take but SJU would be a better team if Anderson benched any player but Storr who took a three pointer with less than five seconds on the shot clock.

Unfortunately coaches, for the most part, have lost almost all their leverage in dealing with these kids. Coach pulls a kid for poor and/or lazy play, he's likely to get a call from that kid's parent or handler threatening a transfer. It's got to be tough for an old time, no nonsense coach like CMA to deal with todays new culture of college ball.

We absolutely must guard the perimeter in this game. Xavier's starting five is extremely efficient from three (see below). If we don't close out, the Musketeers can blow up the scoreboard. They lead the Big East in Points Per Game, Field Goal Percentage, 3pt Field Goal Percentage, and Assists.

Player 3pt %
Souley Boum 52.7%
Colby Jones 44.1%
Jack Nunge 39.5%
Zach Freemantle 62.5%
Adam Kunkel 40.4%

Where do we have an advantage?
Xavier is 10th in the Big East in turnovers. Only Seton Hall turns it over more. We also have the edge in rebounding and Nunge can be bullied at times.

Overall
We have to play our best defense, finish at the rim, and hope a home court advantage can create some karma. Otherwise, this is a tough game.
