Xavier, Wed., Dec. 20, 7p, FS1

I'd gladly take Xavier and Hofstra losses for a ConnU win.
Haha.. ctstorm agrees but he's a beloved Johnnie's grad who toiled in the kingdom of the beast.

My take: if we win in ct, winning at msg again becomes infinitely harder. Rather take care of business against Hofstra and Xavier, and beat uconn at MSG (twice at MSG would be sweet at the Garden party)

Sold out game. Going to be loud. Rick may regret these ubs games when he see what kind of real homecourt advantage CA brings.

Opening night!! First Big East game is just that. Previews are over. We know every kid by now and what they bring. Each has an upside and maybe only Soriano has brought it every night.

The truth is that at this point there are still a lot of question marks. Most notably, the big question is, "Can this team grow into a solid defensive unit, or will defense continue to plague us?"

Was at practice yesterday with Coach Panther. I hate watching practice actually but Rick like to run practice perched in the bleachers mic'd up so kids can hear him and he can see everything.

Yesterday, focused on our youngest rotation(?) players. Zuby can become a defensive force in the paint. When he blocks shots, he gets so much ball it looks like he could block them with his forearms. He doesn't use his strength posting up on offense, and needs lots ofvwork there. Still if he can play well enough, having 10 fouls at center and option to go big in moments big plus.

Wilcher appears to dribble too much, trying to beat his man off the dribble. I'm probably wrong, but if he dribbled less and passed more, offense may run smoother when he's in.

Brady is a scrapper. He mixes it up with much heavier guys and holds his own. Kind of a surprise because you might expect him to be soft at his build, like a 6'7 guard. Great shot, but must start making open looks with money in bank. It's funny, at one point yesterday was running past where i was siiting midcourt and something really set him off and was muttering profanities to himself. I like the fire.

My gut is burning right now. Big big must win start at home. Will set a tone if we don't get it done.

Be there. Be loud. Buy tix - plenty for sale for ubs and garden games.
Cannot wait! Huge opening game

Let’s go St John’s !!!

All right, it's time to play BE basketball.
No more experimenting and getting guys minutes and getting a look-see. Time for serious play with no hotdogging (Note to Jenkins). We need to pass more and dribble less. If the ball goes into Soriano and he gets double-teamed, throw it back out (don't dribble in traffic). On offense, don't stand still and be a spectator, move. Set picks. Move the ball, get the defense moving. Now go out and win!

First ever head-to-head meeting between Rick Pitino and Sean Miller.

All i can tell you is we have been very prepared. Team and staff has watched tons of tape. Practice started about 45 mins late - presume they were watching tape. We know all of Xavier's plays and will be prepared. Worked on that in practice.

How effing refreshing is that preparation from last year when a mic'd up Anderson essentially said "C'mon guys. Try hard. Try really really hard".

Checkers vs. Chess. Grandmaster vs. Country porch checker player. Old news.

We will be ready as we can be. Execution. BE VERY LOUD. Chase them out of our house. Tonight the good old days begin.

Maybe.

(Why does the best part of being a johnnies fan is usually BEFORE a big game? Don't answer.)

Thinking about even it we were 10-0 heading into this game I still think the first game with this team in the big east being at home especially at carnassecca arena would have always been a must win. Have to start the Pitino era off on the right foot in conference. Let’s go!!!!

Just reread this and apologize about the run on sentence but I’m leaving it lol.

I would like to add. If we get this win tonight and I say if as I’m not being cocky for the Xavier team to read this as bulletin board material lol. Be it pretty, sloppy, ugly, graceful. Dont want to all of a sudden hear well Xavier is overrated. We are a good matchup etc. Who cares as long as we are healthy and win. Of course I hope it’s a pretty win and they all play great. Especially Jenkins lol.

Does anyone have clips from anderson's mic's up from last year? Would be interesting to take screenshot of team now vs tea then as coach and Anderson are in huddles
