Xavier Game

I tried burning the tie I wore to the game but fiancée stopped me. If our staff can be superstitious and wear sneakers why can I be superstitious and burn my tie?

Here's how I view tonight:

No doubt about it, we played like sh*t. One of our worst games in a while. But ya know what, this was still a game that we could have won, despite how poorly we played. This was a game where our best player was 1-11 from the field. But ya know what, we still could have won this game. This was a game where we only shot 36% from the floor, but we still could have won. This was a game where we shot 54% from the free throw line, but a game that we could have won. This was a game where we shot 12.5% from the 3pt line, but we still could have won. This was a game where our starting center was coming off a sprained ankle, and our starting point guard was just returning after a family tragedy. And guess what, we could have won this game. I know this isn't the time or place for 'moral victories', but I like the fact that we can play like that and still be in the game with a minute and a half to go.

As far as the NCAA's go, I still feel we will make it....we just have a little more work to do now. We win our last 2 and we are 20-11 heading into the BE tourny. We win one or two in the BE tourny and we are sitting at either 21-12 or 22-12, and I think that will be enough to get in....

We should be past moral victories. Good teams find a way to win this game. We didn't.

We are on the brink.

PS I did my venting on the "Fire Lavin" thread (not that I am for it, but it had the most recent post and I didn't see this one).

Every game we played this year we could have one. If you are suggesting we were close to winning this game I disagree with you. Xaviernwas in control most of the 2nd half.

I do not want hear about any more about moral victories this is not the 2004-05 squad or 2011-12 squad. To quote one of my favorite former owners we need a commitment to excellence and need to win by any means necessary!!

85 I don't see anyone giving credit for keeping the game close against Xavier. So I am not sure what you mean by moral victories.

This wasn't. This was a bad loss in a critical game. No other way to say it.

But the season is not over yet,

Any means necessary? You get the poison, I'll put it Depaul's food.

How many outside shots did Xavier make tonight? Didn't have to with our porous defense.
How many offensive rebounds did we have? One shot and out.
Obekpa probably shouldn't have played. Too slow in reacting to their cuts.
Xavier had an outstanding man to man switching defense, stopped Harrison completely.
Looks as if we have to take the B.E. Tournament, otherwise N.I.T. here we come.
G.G. probably couldn't have scored tonight even if he was the only player on the court, deserved sitting on the pine.
This game meant everything yet we played with no energy. Ugly performance.
Very depressed.

You are dreaming....this is not a tournament quality team...worst team defense in the country. The sad part is the talent is there but they are playing horribly on offense and defense as a team. Coach doing nothing to help team concept.

Even if we squeeze into the NCAAs, I don't see us making any noise.

They probably wouldn't make "any noise," but like I said a bit earlier.... Stranger things have happened.

I just wanna get in and find out the possibilities.

If you're going by stats, then you're way off. You've been on the board for 2 1/2 years and all your posts are of the bashing variety. Where were you during the winning streak? Amazing how losses bring out the "fans."

I see I may have to go stealth again.

Before anyone makes excuses about the team being dejected, it was actually only Jordan that played with any heart. Tremendous effort by him, and good contribution with 11 pts in limited minutes… It was simple for X to beat us in the paint on both ends: Obepka is hurt, Gift is inept, Sanchez thinks he’s a guard, and Sampson is soft. I honestly don’t know what Dom’s position is. Tough to define someone that runs around aimlessly, contributes nothing on offense, and regularly commits fouls beyond the arc. … Harrison needed to put the team on his back after the week it had, but instead he did the opposite.

And before I forget, when SJU cut the deficit to 4 pts with 3 ½ to go, Lavin called a timeout: His signature move. Beyond frustrating.

At the game tonight. Interesting.. I am less pissed watching live then watching on tv. Anybody see d angelo. Man.. he was complete no show tonight. Kid is so good at times and then in games like tonight he just cant deliver a high quality game. He couldn't shoot at all tonight. Gods gift.. 3 missed free throws and phil green cant shoot. Overall very disappointing game.

Got to credit Xavier's coach for his switching defense. Every move Harrison made he was doubled teamed. Stop Harrison and you beat the Johnnies.

On the train headed home and all I can say is this was one of the worst team outings I've seen all year. I'm sure everything that needed to be said about this loss has already been said.

Just back from game...extremely frustrating loss...most disappointed in the TOTAL lack of effort in all aspects of the game against a very beatable team...difference was they played like they recognized the importance of the game and acted like they wanted it...our guys looked like they thought they would roll the balls out and win with no effort...

I hope coach gave them an earful and let them know that they just bleeped up their NCAA chances

Yeah just got back and can't stomach reading this whole thread. Needless to say it was uninspired, sloppy, selfish bad basketball on both ends by this team from start to finish. In what was a must win game this was one of the worst performances I've wasted my time watching. Tom Glavine in the last game of 2007 comes to mind.

This game was a miserable experience. I was particularly jacked up for this game, I thought it would be a momentum building win, and we absolutely laid an egg.
- we shot horrifically
- got out rebounded
- and our interior defense was atrocious.

No one played well. Harrison, Obekpa, and Pointer were particularly bad, but no one looked good.
I thought out of everyone, Sanchez made the least amount of mistakes tonight.

And let me just say to the people who are ranting in the other thread right now....this isn't the time to beat on coach. I'm no Lavin-apologist, as most of you know. But tonight wasn't his fault, and it's not the appropriate time to bring up all the mistakes he made earlier in the season.
I would've preferred to see less Pointer, and to call a timeout and to tell our guys to stop switching on screens....but even with those minor adjustments we still needed to score. And we did next to nothing right on the offensive end tonight. We couldn't shoot, our picks were loose and soft, and nobody was moving crisply when they didn't have the ball. This isn't a game to blame coach.
The interior baskets we gave up were frustrating, but we lost because of offensive inefficiency. Let's not forget that. And that's bean the story of our season, or at least when we lose.

xavier got more layups during the game than they did in pre game warmups

someone needs to give our defense red capes to oley them in.

We'd be great bullfighters
