Would we have been better with LJ?

That's funny.

It says it's quite obvious he was looking out for his own self interests, which as I said is fine, but it's just the truth.   Even if you're so jaded you can't handle it.

You (me and everybody else) root for a college basketball team and hope those kids do well strictly for our enjoyment. And if they would rather do that somewhere else because that might be in their best interest it’s selfish? Was Tariq Owens selfish. Was Justin Simon?

Don't want to argue with you, but YES, depending on the circumstances.

I would say that almost sounds "Jaded”

gotta love a 7 page debate about a player who hasnt been here in almost  year :)

if this thread gets locked for some reason it will be really impressive

Lol, I have no pony in the race.   It's just obvious but you don't want yo admit it.  It's the definition of selfish that one acts in his or her Own self interest.  You're imputing a negative connotation on that.   I says he's entitled to he selfish but it's obvious that he did so at the expense of the program.   He waited till it was too late to fully take advantage of others to replace him.  He looked to move 2 years in a row.   The first time, I guess he didn't have the opportunity he wanted so he stayed.

Was his underperformance related at least in part  his attitude of wanting to be elsewhere?   Idk.

I'll let you have the last word if you want it.

Selfishly, I do.

If I could have a player from last year, it would be Tony Rutherford. No drama, just a solid all-around contributor.

Nick's brother?  /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png/media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png
His brother Clstence Rutherford could really trash talk the Beaver.

I'd say with LJ we dont lose to Georgetown or DePaul.  It's the other wins I'd be concerned with.

Fun argument, and it's relevant because LJ was supposed to be on this roster and we at this point are just outside of the field of 68.

I am way to lazy to go back and look, but I would venture a guess that some/many  of the same posters who are calling LJ's departure "addition by subtraction", are some of the same ones who said the same thing about Tariq Owens. I also never understood what is meant by "if he doesn't want to be here, I don't want him here". I mean, that's like saying "if she doesn't want to sleep with me, I don't want to sleep with her". SMH.

I thought owen's departure was a real loss given the dearth of size that year.  And I blamed the staff at that time.   His decision was also self serving but again his right.   And, he found a great situation for himself.

I've watched a few of his games this year and he looks like a totally different player. Not forcing things and letting the game come to him. Most times down the court he doesn't even touch the ball on offense.

For a team that needs some front court help I do think we would have been better with him. Think he tried to score too much his last year here and forced things a bit.

Currently has 10 points on 4/5 shooting in the 1st half tonight.

I can't even remember the timeline of him leaving. Does someone not come if he's still here, and who is it? I'm pissed that he split in the sneaky fashion he did, but if he buys in, our defense certainly isn't as horrendous as it was early in the year.

He did seem to have a case of Ponds-itis his last year here.

I liked LJ, thought he was a good player.  Offensively he was a good shooter but often took bad shots.  He had a decent handle and was a good passer.  Defensively, he gambled a lot for steals, which was great when pressing full court but hurt him in half court when opponents would blow by him to the hoop.  He was a good rebounder and provided length from wing position.  He's a much better all around player than Cole.  I feel that under Mullin guys like Ponds were allowed to take wild shots.  I think Coach Anderson expects guys to take quality shots and play good defense.  I don't think it was a coincidence that Moore ended up on the bench after taking those two missed threes.  Those may have been good shots for Champ but not Moore.  When LJ didn't play well Coach MA put him on the bench.  Coach Anderson gives guys freedom offensively but he still expects guys to play smart and within themselves.  I love that coach pulls guys out when they're playing bad basketball fundamentally.  He's teaching the right way to play the game.  I like that he holds guys accountable, it's part of what makes him a good coach.  I don't know for sure why LJ transferred but If you don't adjust to meet coaches expectations you're going to sit.  I think LJ would have made us a better team if he would have come back and bought in to coach MA's program.  I love the kids we have on the team now , humble and hardworking.

Both Owen's and LJ were given free reign here to shoot from wherever they wanted. with mixed results.    Owen's wanted more shots and left but was reeled in at TT, having his best overall season.   LJ having his best and most refined season this year that I don't believe would have happened here.

Both good kids and assets here.
