Wisconsin game

I am here with a couple of DePaul grads that I met at work in Chicago. They are Bears fans as well and they bought these cheese grater hats to wear.. apparently its popular to wear against the Packers or anyone from Wisconsin. Can't wait!

A colleague at work is a Wisconsin Badgers alum. I asked him if he would watch the game Fri night and he was not even aware BB had started. "Too early for basketball, still lots of football to be played" he growled (this guy actually growls when he talks). So heres hoping everyone in Badgerland will not be fully focused tomorrow night and we can make a statement early in the season...

They got bounced in first round of the NCAA's last year as a 5 seed and from what I have read are a smallish team. If we (a) defend against the three - seems to be always a weakness for us, and (b) win the rebound battle, we could pull the upset. Cannot wait... :)

Those cheese grater hats are funny, BTW.

Only 3 1/2 point dogs.

I could be wrong, but with so many new faces and much improvement ahead, I'd take Wisconsin minus the points. Not a must win game, but how competitively we play will be a good yardstick going forward. These barometers are a lot more useful than going 10-0 against inferior pre-league patsies.

They've got #10 florida on Tuesday. Ideally we beat them, they beat florida.

If this wasn't the season opener our game would have all the makings for a trap game. Your scenario above, though, would be ideal.

Hard game to figure with all the Johnnie players putting so much emphasis on this game.
It seems that they have been pointing to this game since the summer.
The worry is Lavin talking about the team gelling in February.
Maybe Lavin is speaking this way in the event of a loss causing the team
to really doubt themselves. Who knows? Certainly a win would do wonders
to the beginning of this season.

Wisc graduated their entire frontline Bruesewitz, Bergerron, and Evans. Dekker is a stud and the backcourt returns. Supposedly have 6 freshman and a redshirt that can all shoot. Sounds like if we guard the 3 we can win this and win it easily.

guarding the 3 has not been out strong suit.

neither is guarding the 2.

Actually, that is not at all true. We were ranked #51 in fg% defense in the country last year and #1 in blocked shots. For reference, National Champ Louisville was around #40 in FG% defense last year. Statistically, we were solid guarding the 2.

Will the game be available on TV? Redstormsports.com says its on the "Big Ten Network." Is it on any channel we can get in NYC?

Just another example of stats not telling the real story.. Many opponents made so many 3's that they didn't need to take the 2's. I think consensus among the knowing was we were not good defensively. Or, rebounding.. Or, free throw shooting.. or, our own 3 pt shooting. Yes, we did block shots but, that is a deceiving stat that often doesn't influence the games outcome. It's like dunking..Still only 2 points.despite the oohs and ahhs.

Frankly, we have a new season to see our improvement in these key areas.

It's well document that MCN sees the program through rose-colored glasses, but on this point he's not wrong. We weren't an awful team defensively aside from guarding the 3pt line. And if we hadn't given up so many offensive boards early in the year, our fg% numbers would have been even better.

Going into this year I wanted to see us have better ball-movement, rebound, and guard the 3 better. In that order.
I don't include shooting because I don't believe that can improve dramatically when most of the same players are returning. However, the quality of shots we get can change, and that could make a big difference.
