Why does it feel like this team is so close

This is not directed at RMW, but the reality is that we live in an era of excuses. IE It wasn't Posh's fault that he didn't play as well last season as in prior seasons, it was Curbelo's. It wasn't the player's fault that they played out of control last season, it was Anderson's. Etc. Etc.

No doubt other factors contribute to a player's underperforming, but at the end of the day, the large majority of the fault lays with the player themselves.
Funny, how last year all of the fault was blamed on the coach, and this year "the large majority of the fault lays with the players".

Disagree somewhat. While Anderson received a good share of the blame and deservedly so, players also received heavy criticism to especially Wusu and Jones.

It feels like we are so close because we are so close. Losing in the last minutes of games is largely a matter of luck. I know that is not the sports radio way to think of it, but it is a fact. A shot goes in here it misses there. If Jenkins makes against Creighton or Marquette everything looks different. He didn't miss because he is bad, or "unclutch". He missed because sometimes players miss and these misses came at bad times. Over the last 10 games, when we went 4-6, Bart Torvik has us as the 26th-best team in the country. Of all the metrics measured, the one most dependent on luck is wins and losses. In that case, we have been really unlucky, unfortunately, it is the only one that matters. I hope our luck changes, but we obviously have a team that can play with anybody.

I don't disagree. But even the "luck" metric that torvik and kenpom put out isn't necessarily "luck" in the colloquial sense. It's more just about underperforming your metrics (which certainly includes bad luck, timing, etc.), but that could also include a team that just makes mistakes or fails to hit a shot at key points in a game where that particular play has a higher impact on the outcome. In practice that could be all bad luck/timing, all bad "clutch," or a mix of both, idk.

If executing in the last few possessions is a matter of luck, then Seth Curry, Lebron, Kobe, Bird and Jordan are among the luckiest players ever.

Many comments about that the team has many transfers from mid-majors. And they are not playing good in Big East.

But perhaps the adjustments from mid-major to Big East is longer than we expected.

Look, for example, Tyler Kolek.

His stats in their first season in Marquette: 6.7 ppg (playing 29 minutes per game), .320 fgp and .281 3fgp.

I´m not saying that our players will be in his second season with us like Kolek, but, like many jucos (Bill Goodwin, Boo Harvey, James Scott), the impact is not immediate.

I have expected Coach Pitino to have adjusted to the level of talent that is on the roster. He repeatedly says that this team can't play defense. It seems to me that there is enough skill on this team to put a defense in place that they can execute successfully. At this point in the season, the excuse that they only want to play offense is unacceptable. The point is to win games, not hold players to such high a standard that the Coach says they won't or can't attain.
I appreciate Coach Pitino's love of teaching the game, but it seems to me that our players look tired early in the game. Does Coach drive them too hard in practice because they are not executing to his satisfaction? This late in the season, I don't think that that tactic will be productive.

Dingle dribbles the ball of his own foot. Air balls a three. Soriano the sieve can’t guard anyone. He’s telling the truth. Tons of reach in fouls. Blah blah blah..::/

Like most advanced metrics in sports these days, there is NO way this team is the 26th best team (or anywhere near it) in the country. Sorry, but that's just bunk. Like analytics in baseball etc., completely ignores the "see it" test and intangible factors, and anyone who has seen us play the past month knows that we are not a good team, let alone 26th best..
