Whitehead Knew Lavin was gone?

So Lav knew 2 years beforehand that he was getting the ax? C'mon, then why did he recruit Briscoe and Check? Another example of Lavin's ability to blame other people/circumstances for his firing.

Asinine comment by Lavin. I could see him saying that in reference to midway through last year but the idea that Whitehead didn't come because he thought Lavin was getting fired it just stupid.

If we would have hired Tiny then Whitehead would be at St Johns ( I don't Blame Lavin for not hiring him ) and also if anything in my opinion Willard was more in danger than Lavin of getting fired when Whitehead committed

Complete and utter nonsense. Lavin wasn't getting fired at that point and Whitehead's decision had solely to do with Tiny Morton's employment. If Whitehead knew back in 2013 that Chris was going to be the head coach -- and Morton's hiring wasn't a condition to the recruitment -- we would have had a good chance at landing him. Isiah has gone out of his way to say nice things about Mullin & Co.

Dopey Donny Marshall should have never asked the question. The real answer Whitehead would never say on the air in that situation. Lavin would have been better off telling the truth and throwing the kid under the bus than blaming St. John's for allowing "everyone" to know he was going to get fired two years later. Just a ridiculous exchange from the jump.

Where do you see the two years before part?

In fairness to Lavin. I'm not talking about whiteheads year. But wo a contact extension, that probably affected recruiting last year.

If this piece is referring to the post game live interview I took it as a tongue in check joke on Lavin's part. It was a goof. He was put on the spot by a laughing Marshall. It was not a serious question and response.

Do you really think lavin would get into the Tiny Morton situation on national TV by responding that he decided to remain loyal to his staff by not replacing one of them with whiteheads coach? He made a joke out of it

Now you just confirmed what Gonzalo said. My bad. Sometimes when you read something in the paper it looks totally different in the context of how it was said live

Not recruiting also has an affect on recruiting.

This guy from the Post is questionable when it comes to being objective about people he likes or dislikes. Professionals should be objective and not try to make people they don't like look bad. He'd fit right in with us in 114, but writing for a major paper may not work out.

I thought that Lavin was joking.

Oh damn really ? I didnt see the tv spot so maybe I took his quote out of context

Per my assessment, gonzalo is correct.... He was joking. You could tell it was a bit awkward for Whitehead and Lavin, per the madness from Donny Marshall.

I saw the interview, and also took it as tongue firmly in cheek.

Actually, I thought it was nice of Whitehead and Lavin to have that sit down on camera, and put the controversy from the night before behind them.

I'm soooo confused. ;)

When I blow out the candles at my upcoming birthday, I'm going to wish that I never see Lavin's name -- whether it's in a positive or negative perspective -- on redmen.com ever again. :(

That would be a wasted wish. Wish for something more likely to happen. ;)
