Where is the SNY and ESPN coverage for St. John's?

What's really hard to believe is that there is no video clip of either of the UNC games on the redstormsports web site.

Very valid point. Someone should write some of the STJ admin to find out why.

Its a anology used by football coaches dont put a fumbler in the game when its on the line.
In monasch era at st.j's BasketBall team lost its wfan radio coverage & announcers thats a fumble.
I think his record is consistent in dropping the ball ok & think he's a BAD AD

Your perfectly entitled to think that way.

Personally I have no dog in the fight when it comes to radio coverage. I could care less what channel we are on. I don't recall us being on WFAN recently. I do recall us being on ESPN radio. I also remember games getting moved all over the dial because ESPN also had deals with NYR and NYK. At least with Bloomberg you know what channel we are on all the time. It also takes two to tango and who is to say ESPN didn't want us. They might not have wanted us for $ reasons or because we were downright bad. Just saying thats all.

If you want to get on him for this radio thing thats fine to an extent. But you also have to give credit for the positives, no? The direction of STJ athletics overall is pretty good under his watch. Yes Masur and Blanky were here before Monasch but still has to get 'some' points for keeping things pointed due north, no?

Moose great post. The radio coverage improved big time under Chris's watch, a few years ago under Norm we were stuck on radio Disney 1560AM that signal could barely reach Rockaway Queens.

Chris takes alot of abuse on this site and others. So far the negative issues that happened under his watch was the conduct of Brian Colleary and perhaps the failure in keeping Kim Barnes. But end of the day women's basketball may not generate enough revenue to justify what a Michigan was able to ultimately afford. I am confident both events are small bumps in the road that the University and Chris will learn from.

Chris is a major improvement under the one year wonder Jim Pellow, and his predecesser Dave Wegryzn.

I think the AD at st.johns should be a higer profile person in name & statue maybe John Franco is the person to bring us the respect the school needs. He lives in NY city..

I went down to Chapel Hill for the tournament. The North Carolina games were not on local TV, only on radio. Moose is right, ESPN owns the rights to the games. Also, bloggers at the game can not blog the game real time because of the same rules. They can only give periodic updates.

Interesting piece showing what goes into the production of these games.

St. John’s, CBS Sports Network Tap NewTek For Baseball Telecasts

QUEENS, N.Y. – CBS Sports Network partnered with St. John’s Athletics recently to produce and deliver HD games for national television through the public internet for the first time ever.

Three games between the St. John’s Red Storm and Seton Hall at Jack Kaiser Stadium in Queens on the weekend of May 19th, were produced in full high-definition by the St. John’s Television Network (STJ-TV) and delivered to CBSSN for distribution on its national network, available to 99 million homes, without the use of television production or satellite trucks.

“We are excited about STJ-TV, our partnership with CBS Sports Network, and the possibilities this endeavor can provide St. John’s University in terms of exposure and potential revenue,” said St. John’s Director of Athletics Chris Monasch. “Our first successful national network telecast was the culmination of engaging technology, hard work by our staff and an outstanding partner in CBSSN. This weekend series is just the beginning, only scratching the surface of what we hope STJ-TV can become.”

Using the NewTek Tricaster 850 Extreme at its core, STJ-TV produced a four-camera H.D. telecast with full graphics integration, replay, announcers and commercial spots, giving viewers a high-quality game telecast. STJ-TV used three Canon XF305 cameras with one Sony EX3 mounted with a Canon interchangeable lens for the three-game series between the BIG EAST baseball rivals.

The entire H.D. telecast was transmitted to CBSSN without using a satellite or fiber — but using an encoded signal over the public Internet — believed to be the first time ever for live action sports in H.D. on a national network. STJ-TV tapped VidyoCast as the weekend’s transmission carrier and also employs Fujitsu as an IP transmission vendor for different broadcasts.

The production was crewed by a 15-person team, a combination of local television professionals and St. John’s undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in a video production course at the University.

“We have a video production operation that benefits our entire University,” said Mark Fratto, St. John’s Senior Associate Athletics Director for Communications. “The St. John's Television Network gives undergraduate students a chance to learn and contribute to actual telecasts by experiencing hands-on H.D. sports production. We think this model will be tough to beat in terms of the quality versus the cost.”
