Where is the SNY and ESPN coverage for St. John's?

I mean seriously. What this SJ baseball team has done is VERY historic. To beat UNC the first time in such dramatic fashion on a huge stage in the NCAA Tourney was huge to begin with. Then, they beat them AGAIN...both games at home and both big postseason games. St. John's was ranked like 36 in the Sporting News poll...UNC was like 4 or 5. Is this a joke? How is this not one of the best sports stories nationwide right now? In a baseball hotbed like NYC, a school in the Big East doesn't get recognized for this? They mention it at a Met's game, but not on SNY or ESPN? ESPN is talking about softball...really? It's such a shame, because we are making history here, and barely anyone even knows because there is no coverage. Huge upsets like these can affect recruiting...if SJ is hyped more by the media, it can make more players exposed to the name and make them interested. I know this isn't like some DIII school beating UNC we are still good, but I mean come on...this is big news.

ESPN is only interested in Tiger, Lebron, etc. - the individual. They stopped caring about team sporting stories a long time ago. As for SNY, well, they probablt don't even know the college tournament is going on.

If you haven't noticed this tourney is as bad as a tourney can be. Let's take SJU out of the equation for a minute Stony Brook goes an amazing 23-1 and gets a 4th seed. The committee that makes up this tourney makes it impossible for a Northeast team to succeed. The regional and super regional sites are never in the north and in what I watched its not that all the games are attracting huge crowds. NCAA is takig care of the big 4 conferences now and has little regard for the rest.

That being said - Let's go SJU!

Try espnu, they've had extensive coverage of the tourny. Didn't have any visuals of SJU games but the "expert" said one of his big disappointments were #1 seeds failing to make it out of sub-regionals,mentioned unc in that context. Said his sleeper team was Kent St. Guess he considers us his "comatose" team.

Ironic when you consider their recent campaign to try to get NY'ers to tune into SNY because they cover 'all' the NY teams as they say in their recent ads.

Yeah, "all" the NY teams, like the Pukon men's and women's basketball teams. SNY is a joke as a "NY based" sports network.

If Syracuse or UConn was playing in this tourney, SNY would be all over it. For now, just go to the NCAA Baseball sight. That is about the only way to follow it.

no video equals no coverage on the espn's of the world. at least sny could have put up an over the shoulder box and read ten of fifteen seconds on the story off the ap wire. bad news judgement on their part.

btw...the games against arizona will be shown on espnu. it could be worse.

Don't be surprised to see SNY do a feature on the baseball team leading up to Friday's game.

They had Blankmeyer on, over the telephone last night, too. Unfortunatly, I only caught the very end, when they thanked him for being on the broadcast, but he did say something about representing the cold-weather teams.

I'm suprised that the video has not been put up on RedStormSports.com. I guess they haven't gotten permission yet.

I will be very surprised if that happens.

Does anyone know when the first game against 'Zona is?

Even the 11:00 ABC News sports didn't mention us winning. I agree what many have said about SNY, I enjoy the type of programming that they do but I hate who they always focus on, UConn & Syracuse when it comes to college sports. St. John's should try and negotiate a contract with either YES or MSG similar to the one UConn has with SNY.

Frustrating indeed. UConn's contract with SNY explains the attention they receive, but seems like Syracuse frequently gets more attention than local teams because they have a lot of alums working in the local sports media. If I recall correctly, for this past season's Midnight Madness, SNY covered Syracuse and Syracuse only. Will be interesting to see how SNY covers Syrcause and the ACC once they start playing in that conference.

How can the networks cover the games when they weren't on tv?
No tv footage = no segment on St John's baseball

The games were only broadcast online - that's not the kind of footage the networks are going to want to use.
This weekend the games with Arizona will all be on ESPNu right? I'm sure that leads to more coverage, win or lose.

But, you're right that the baseball team deserves all the credit in the world. The newspapers should be on top it, they have no excuse.

You can still show a brief 5 second clip. Plenty of internet quality videos are shown on the news.

Even without the video a mention won't hurt.

And someone brought up channel 7. They recently put the Islanders logo on the screen while recapping the Stanley Cup Final game. And media people wonder why internet people piss on the mainstream media. Nuff said.

St.J's should have tried to sell their games to MSG since both the knicks & rangers are done.
Very little coverage in newspapers also after winning BE tourney.
Again the AD Moansch fails to cash in on promoting our schools teams winning

A week ago you celebrated them for their innovative online broadcasting venture and now your saying they failed to cash in?

Dug this up and thought you guys would enjoy reading it: :)

Finally, no discussion of college baseball postseason moments would be complete without mention of one of the most famous games of all time -- the regionals matchup between Yale and St. John's in 1981, when Ron Darling and Frank Viola faced off in a Harvey Haddix-like duel for the ages.

Viola threw zeroes for St. John's through 11 innings, but Yale's Darling did even better -- he allowed no hits entering the 12th. He had let only two balls out of the infield and struck out 13. But just like Haddix for the Pittsburgh Pirates 22 years earlier, Darling's impeccable performance wound up in heartbreaking defeat.

Darling lost his no-hitter in the top of the 12th when St. John's speedster Steve Scafa blooped a single to left and immediately stole second. Darling struck out the next hitter and watched as a miscue by shortstop Bob Brooke (the future NHL player) left runners at first and second. Scafa stole third. Darling struck out the next hitter, putting him one out away from keeping the game alive.

But the runner on first broke for second, setting off a delayed double steal. Scafa stole home to finally break the deadlock and give St. John's a 1-0 lead. Darling ended the inning with his 16th strikeout and left the field to hearty applause -- even from Viola, who then yielded to a reliever who quickly retired Yale in the 12th for the win.

Viola and Darling met up later as teammates with the Mets, but will stand together forever by their incredible 11 innings of tandem shutout ball, Darling's with no hits. Former Yale coach Smokey Joe Wood, a former 34-game winner in the big leagues who beat Christy Mathewson in the deciding game of the 1912 World Series, later said, "I never saw a better game played anywhere."
